Wheel Alignment

Featured Replies

Hi,

Can anyone recommend anywhere in Manchester to get the wheel alignment set up properly on my Octy II?

Had new tyres 15K miles ago and the tyre monkeys 'adjusted' the tracking for free (all part of the service sir) even though I asked them not to. They have put it out and can't get it right again...

Cheers

oh dear, I cant be of any help but I feel your pain lol the last time I let tyre monkeys loose on my car they managed to damage the lock nut key (Which I had to replace) they put the studs back in in a clockwise order with an impact gun which causes imbalance and to top it off I had to go back when I relised they had fitted a tyre in the wrong direction!

Hello, Awesome GTI in Irlam. I had four wheel alignment carried out by them on my Vrs three years ago and no problems since

Drury Lane Garage Services in Oldham.

They know what they are doing and the price is right as well. Hunter alignment rig with a fully floating ramp.

They did mine and it was spot on when I left, the car has driven brilliantly ever since.

andy... how much did u pay?

About £86 I think as it needed all 4 corners adjusting.

They charge about £46 if they only need to adjust one end IIRC.

This was over a year ago though, so it may have changed.

Awesome wanted silly money, something around £120 I think.

Out of interest, how do your prices compare Allias?

Depend on job - thats why check is free.

Front toe comes to £40. If needs subframe shifting - its £60. With rear beam trust angle adjustment (if possible) £80. If vehicle like Octavia with 4 wheel alignment up to £80 - depend on adjustment. Bigger job like Range Rovers can get to £100 but I never had one for that price dispite I had 4 Land Rovers in last 4 months.

For me its unfair to say - this for XXXX and that for YYYY as each vehicle is individual and might need inidividual adjustment.

Do you find you have to move the front subframe often on Octavias?

50/50. Most of times on Fabias/Ibizias floors as people had ARBs done and after that they pull. Subframe is usually problem for models with beam in rear, but there is no rule. Each car is different.

I am about to take delivery of a new CR TDI vRS, and then immediately fit a Bilstein B12 kit which i am expecting will lower the car about 15mm. My question is: does the car then need an alignment check? if so why? what will have changed any more than it would by just loading up a car with standard suspension? and exactly what aspects of the cars wheel alignment are actually adjustable other than the tracking of the front wheels? I have feeling (but are happy to be corrected with a good argument) that there exists a belief that "you must have a 4 wheel alignment check when you've touched the suspension"...period, and that it may be unfounded.

You will need it done, you do not drive the car fully loaded all the time

but taxi drivers do...and the rozers do...they're probably lower than my motor will be with just me and a tank of juice!

I'm not meaning to be argumentative, just trying to understand if there is an actual alignment change by lowering a little, and hence a need for re-alignment.

And what aspects are adjustable other than tracking??

You will have negative rear camber when lowered, this can be adjusted also

ok, that's the sort of info i'm after. My following worry would be...and how many folk who offer 4 wheel alignment actually know what they are on about?

Alias does, but a long way for you to come to Leeds! :giggle:
