Would a dealer ever buy a car from you?

Featured Replies

I purchased a new fabia vrs back in september of last year, 50% ish deposit, and the rest financed through Skoda Auto Finance.

Due to just buying my first house, it looks like the skoda will have to go, now what im wondering is if anyone knows whether a dealer would ever buy a car back from a customer without the customer buying a new car.

So i would give them back the car, and they would settle the finance and give me a nice cheque for X amount remaining.

Anyone have any experience of this, or work for a dealer and know the procedure??

I've sold a car back to a dealer before (not Skoda). Be prepared to shoulder a heavy loss though :(

tbh thats what i was expecting, might give them a call, just to see what they say, just save some hassle

cheers for advice

Yep Stan - that's what I was saying. By far the easiest option but infinitely more expensive.

sorry jane

it was only after I hit the submit button that I realised it might sound like a "Get At" and it wasn't meant to be honest :o:o:o

the wurst thing you can do is take a car back to the dealer for a decent price

I wanted to sell a two week old car (Seat Toledo) back in 2000. No dealers were interested at all. They knew that there would be such a massive price difference between what I wanted / what they'd pay.

I did find one used VW specialist, who was happy to have my car in his showroom and he would take a commision from what the car sold for.

This maybe your best course of action, as a private sale is difficult on such a new car. Joe public prefer dealers as they offer warranty, finance and some recourse.

I was lucky, in that I'd bought my car at such a massive discount (imported from Ireland), I was able to price the car much lower than franchised dealers. I ended up selling the car for the same as what I'd paid, via an ad I'd placed on autotrader website. Bearing in mind I was still competing with car supermarkets selling imports for similar money, I was very fortunate in selling at all.

Try a general car dealer not a Skoda one as they will have an abundance of vehicles to choose from where dealer that deal in all types will have a more general range of client who may not necessarily be looking for that particular car but when they see it like it.

It worked for me before.

If you have a Fabia vRS dont write of your local dealer, they are allways out for them as they make good second hand buys. And list prices are high, dealers have waiting lists for used vehicles so give em a go, what you got to lose?

Skoda vrs is becoming a sought after car as word is getting around just how good it is. Autocar had one on a 12 month test and sold it for

Don't forget you'll have to clear any outstanding finance before you can sell it.

currently waiting for skoda dealer to phone me back, end of month yesterday, and apparently the guy dealing has been out at auctions all day today, so we shall see.

Prepare for a shock when they do call you back, I lost 3 grand on an 3 year old MX5 over 6 months when I sold it back to a dealer, admittedly a different dealer for the one than I bought it off.

Thats not bad Vague One. I sold my 03 reg Clio back to the dealer and it cost

I probably phrased that badly, I bought a 3 year old MX5 for 11k and then sold it six months later (SWMBO wanted a house!!!) and only got 8k for it.

The Furby vRS holds its value very well. A lot of cars don't. I'm not counting on it doing it but if it does it's a bonus for sure :D
