Dodgy MAF?

Featured Replies

Had a Fabia TDI PD100 for a couple of months now and while I love the car, it seems be pretty slow. Didn't think much about it until I went in a mates polo with the same engine and it felt much faster higher up the rev range. Took the Fabia out for a spin with an ODB scanner plugged in and the maf seems to top out at around 60G/s hits its around 3k rpm and stays there until almost redline. Ive took the maf out and cleaned it with electronics cleaner and put a new filter in but got the same result. Is this normal for this maf? Seems to be pretty low. Also its getting 18.1 psi boost which i believe is normal from the searching ive done.

Am I just expecting too much from the car or should it be quicker? Or is the polo just lighter. Seems to run out of steam after the initial turbo kick.

unplug the MAF, this will revert it back to a base fuelling..drive it and see if you get a smoother kick and more top end

To me 60 g/s seems low.. But I know naff all about diesels and don't pretend to either! Petrols you typically see up to about 230 g/s peak so I'd assume there is an issue.

Maybe try cleaning it before replacing it if it does turn out to be faulty but watch out, they are fragile

Cheers mate, ill unplug it for the trip to work tomorrow and see how it goes.

Also, what is your air filter like? It will only flow as much as it can within reason, if it's very dirty and clogged then it might be running out of gas up top as it can't achieve the possible flow rates.

A panel filter can help with that

Do you have VCDS? Or can you log blocks with you scanner?

Nah i was using torque pro on android with a Bluetooth ODB adaptor. Not sure on its accuracy, but it seems pretty spot on with everything else.

Drove it to work today with the maf unplugged. It seemed almost the same. Maybe a little more pull before the turbo but still as wheezy top end. Shouldnt it feel alot different? Might just bite the bullet and drop a new maf in at the weekend.

I had the same problem with my Vrs, but mine started hesitating too. Admittedly my MAF was a bit poo, so i got a new one but still wasnt 100%. Mine was sorted with a new diesel filter.

Are you 100% sure his hasn't been mapped?

Pulling higher up the rev range sounds like it has been. I remember when mine was standard, felt like you needed to change up about 3000rpm.

Thought I'd just give a quick update since it annoys me when people fix things and just leave the forum without putting there solution! Haha.

Anyway, i changed the diesel filter which seemed to make the car rev abit more free but the main change was the maf. The thing pulls like a train now all the way to the rev limiter. Feels like a totally new car. Just need to save for the remap now.

Thanks for the input guys.
