Colour Coded door handles

Featured Replies

Hi everyone.

Anyone experience problems opening the doors after having the door handles painted. My missus just bought a fabia vrs whis has the handes colour coded. When you unlock the car and pull on the handle to open a door it will not open. It will open however if you push the hande before pulling it. Once it has been opened after being unlocked there is no issue opening it until it is locked again.

The issue is a bit more annoying when your inside the car as if the car has been locked and unlocked since you got into the car you cannot open it from the inside!! Instead you have to get someone to go outside push and then pull the exterior handle to opn the door.

Once the door has actually been opened after being unlocked there is no issue opening the door from inside or outside. My thoughts on this is that the exterior handle is sitting a fraction off the closed position due to the handle being sprayed??

Thoughts and advice very welcome.

Thanks

mine has done this a couple of times since i colour coded mine.

my thoughts on this... with the extra layer of paint on the handles, the handles simply don't fully return back to their "proper position" when you let go of the handle.

On the couple of occasions i hvae had to let a passanger out, the handle on the outside was a good 20mm away from the normal position.

obviously i could be wrong, but looks likely and seems logical (to me at least  )

Yes that is exactly what looks like is happening  Any thing we can do to prevent this from happening?? Bit of WD40? Or remove the excess paint from behind the handles??

Mine were colour coded and I never had an issue...

to be honest, as it's only happened a couple of times to me, i've not actually thought about fixing it!

but yeah, could do either of those suggestions, or just wait for it to naturally wear away where the paint is too think.

Yea hopefully it wears away soon :smirk:

Nowt to do with the paint.

The handles haven't been put back in tidy.

If you hold open the handle you will see a clip that's attached to a wire. The clip hasn't been put back in it's correct notch, therefore deadlocking the door until you push the handle.

Move the clip down a notch or two towards the car. (not towards you).

This should stop it deadlocking.

Also if the handles don't return to their original position, the handle haven't been put back on the spring clips neither.

What they've done is put the handle in, clip the wire in any notch and that'll do.

It needs to be put back in tidy.

Also if the handles don't return to their original position, the handle haven't been put back on the spring clips neither.

Ok fair enough, will also give your suggestion a go.

any idea how to do that as i couldn't see any spring clips, only the wire bit your referred to that goes in the handle?

You need to take the key cover part off to access it. Once that's off you will see your problem.

See Tech1e's GUIDE on how to remove handle.
