Where's the boot light switch?!

Featured Replies

Is it as suggested in this thread or what?!

In my old golf's, it was visible so if you were working in the boot you could manually switch it off and save the battery or avoid it shining in your face or whatever, but I cannot find an equivalent in my octy, and the dealer hasn't got a clue how it works... it just does!

Any ideas out there, and any pics to illustrate?

Its the same with many cars produced in the last few years, there's no separate switch as such its part of the boot lock/catch mechanism and its also used for the central locking and 'boot open' warning on the dash. When the canbus system detects the boot catch is open it turns the boot lights on.

Bummer!

Thanks though, shame some things are sometimes over complicated nowadays.

I still need to sort this on mind. Boot locks properly, opens properly, appears on Maxidot correctly, but the boot lights don't come on. Haven't tested whether the bulbs are shot mind you, but I reckon I'll need to do the same and swap out the whole switch emoticon-0114-dull.gif

Got the same problem, its been like it for ages but not got round to having a look at the fuse. does anyone know which fuse it is, as ive not noticed anything else not working.

I have the same problem as the others.......Has anyone got a picture or diagram of the switch. Usually stuff like this can be mended as it is likely to be a duff microswitch connection or even a dose of switch cleaner might sort it out

How much is the replacement part? Is it the whole mechanism or can you get just the switch?

Thanks etc

Tom

Have you checked that its plugged into the rear cluster? Mine never worked but when I had to change my indicators yesterday as they were going white, I discoverd one of the boot lights wasnt plugged in and never had been as I had to use a stanley blade to 'Finish off' the cutting out of the inspection hatch. The otherside however is plugged in but not working so ive just left it with one working.

Sorry to persist with this but ...............I have now identified the part of the electrics which feeds this 'switch'........I tried testing the wires but I wasn't sure that I could positively identify which two wires make up the actual switch (make/break) part of the circuit.

Does anyone know which wires are which, please? I am trying to postively prove that this part is causing the problem of no boot light and to lay out £30 odd plus vat is quite a lot of money for me to find out that it is not where the fault lies (I do think it is the cause though).

Thanks v much

Tom.

Did you get this fixed? Ive the same problem now

Cheers

Mike

I'd trouble with the OE equipment fuse and all the OE bulbs popping when I left the boot open for a long time while camping. Replaced as necessary and they have been OK the past 3 years.

Gregoir, Hi........

The only probs I have had with my Octavia 2 1.9tdi estate have all been in this area. I have never actually fixed it so that it worked as per the original set up. Some time after this problem I developed an intermittent boot release switch problem which eventually failed completely i.e. when I clicked the opening switch on the tailgate it didn't operate the boot actuation motor. I investigated this to death and finally had to set up my own little release switch (a discreet little push action switch on the side of the gearbox tunnel trim just next top the front of the seat. All skoda had to do is sell the car with a manual boot release and I would have lived with it. The recommended way of manually releasing the boot is to put the back seats down climb into the boot area and pull back a piece of trim and move a lever...........great when you are in a suit with a car load and it is raining!!!!!!

I think I may have a faulty convenience unit but there is (I think) a wiring problem also. I did find trouble in that the water pipe for the rear windscreen washer jet passes behind the trim panel on the left hand side of the boot area and there is a joint just over a connector block and the water pipe was a bit loose (with no clips around it) at this point allowing the water to leak out over the connector block (well designed Skoda!!). I had to make this joint water tight and on examination of the connector block discovered that one of the connection terminals had rotted away so it was out with the soldering iron and bypassing the connector block...None of this cured the problems I was having (no boot light and no boot opening) this problem drove me absolutely bonkers as I am in and out of the boot all day and the weather has been pitch black for the last 3 years so it was much more annoying than one would actually imagine..........I ended up installing my own little lighting circuit.

This convenience system idea I really found to be a pain the arse as it is very difficult to check the wiring without removing all the trim panels all the way up to the convenience unit. The positive supply to whatever the item is being operated is only live whilst that item is being operated

In fact this problem annoyed me so much whereas I would have never considered buying anything else other than another skoda having been through this problem I now find myself think of other makes for the next car

So I wish you well in your search for a resolution but don't hold your breath

Best etc

I know it's an old topic, but I got the exact same problem and I was wondering how you managed to get it sorted?

Thanks and sorry for the resurrection.

My boot lights don't work ... nor does the dash display when the boot is open .... there have been new rear washer motors replaced on the car ... I'm guessing water ingress from the washer has something to do with the boot lights and display when open ,,,, I think I'll just put a push button battery led in there

The problem did not recur over my 7 years of ownership after I changed the bulbs and fuse.

There is a timer which shuts the lights off after a while, just to complicate even more.
