Sound proof foam

Featured Replies

Please, does anyone know, off the top of the head sort of thing, how much the shaped sound deadening foam that sits on top of the engine under the moulded plastic cover costs. Roughly.

Many thanks.

For which engine?

For which engine?

OOps!! I'd just like to say I'm happy to accept the Briskoda Pillock of the week award for that. Sorry.

TDi 1.9 BJB type.2005

Thanks

To be fair, it sounded to me like you were talking about the black padded deadening bit you get as standard in diesels, cos I bought it for my 1.8 petrol.

MK 2 FL - £20.00 - including main dealer fitting.

Believe all Mk 2 are the same fitting.

Where did you buy yours from ?

I too want it for my 1.8 FL do u have a part number ?

The part number is 1ZO863831. Bear in mind mine is a pre-fl 1.8t L&K so I don't know if it's the same for fl models. Good starting point though. Cost about £15, but I ordered it from brand new when I got the car so I got 10% off.

The 'sound absorber for bonnet lid' for the facelift Octavia II is 1Z0 863 831A. Don't order the 12 clips for it as I did because it comes with them! The dealer price last October was £22.62.

Going back to the original question, the sound deadening foam under the various engine covers doesn't appear to be listed as a separate part.

With respect I don't think it would be much help to you to buy from the same dealer as I did,

bearing in mind that we are some 4-5K miles apart.

Part numbers are already posted on this topic.

All I will say is I have been very satisfied with mine, quieter, engine warm up quicker,

sounds better when closing bonnet/hood and it certainly makes the engine bay look better finished.

So little for so much.

thanks !

the bonnet for the pre and fl are one and the same ! So i don't think would be a problem .. (hopefully)!emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

But the part numbers aren't the same. I posted the correct part number for your car which comes with the correct clips too. Is that revised part not available in India?

Ya, I know I saw that later !! sorry for that.

Will be ringing up the dealer first thing tomorrow morning !!

Do you have this, have you noticed any difference in the bonnet getting maybe a little less hot ?? because on normal (blisteringly hot days here) it gets worringly hot & I can't imagine it being too good for the paint !

Cheers

Just spoken to my local dealer parts dept who say the part is simply not listed for my FL Octavia (2011) therefore if they order and it doesnt fir they may not refund me and take the part back! Also they say I need a set of clips (only 12p each). Is this non-listing because my Octavia is petrol-engined do you think. I think I may gamble and order one but.....

The FL octy petrol doesn't come with the soundproofing but there are quite a few who have hand it on here on their tsi s.

There shouldn't be any fitting issues as the bonnet on the fl and pre fl is one and the same. Also order the 831 A part number it comes with the clips so you don't need to buy any.

Thanks for that. Do you know if the plastic engine cover has the moulded foam plastic stuck to its underside? The foam is definitely there 'cos it is falling apart and coating everything under the bonnet with tiny granules of rubber dust. And if I stick my fingers under the cover I can pull bits off that are dry and crumbly with no "spring" left in them.

If the rubber is stuck on I will have to buy a complete engine cover I suppose. Tsk --more expense !! How much are complete covers? Please and thank you.

Further to this, I've just been told that the plastic cover with foam attached costs about £90.

Is there any foam plastic on the market -sold off a roll so to speak--that is specifically designed to resist the heat on top of an engine. If there is half a yard would no nicely with a bit of trimming and peace and quiet would (nearly) return.

Does anyone know please. I've drawn a blank so far.

Thanks.
