I go to Germany on holiday most summers via North Sea Ferries (fantastic) then through Holland & when I hit Germany, it's foot hard down, cruising at anything between 120-150 (depending on conditions & car) & I have yet to be stopped. (now I've done it, I'm off there in August) :whew: Perhaps cos I'm an old git!

Yes thats the summer...... 150 mph is big speed for even the autobahns to be cruising at I hope you have appropriately speed rated tyres and check the entire wheels before attempting this between tread and inner and outer walls for any sign of damage and pressures. Most Germans these days do around 65-70mph in general and I assume this is for fuel saving due to high prices. Only good thing is the Germans have excellent lane discipline and don't tend to pull out on a car bearing down on them or hog lanes they should not be in after overtaking like in UK where its an epidemic of ignorant, selfish dangerous driving. The official German recommended speed limit for the autobahn is 130kph 80.78mph if the police see a tourist giving it yeee haa tearing up the roads in their country you can expect their full attention and would need to be carrying a lot of cash for fines. anything over 80.78mph is only ok if they think so in their opinion no come back.

Out of interest which insurance company do you use as I have never found a mainstream one in the UK that allows you to exceed the advised autobahn 130kph some cap theirs at 100mph but never seen any happy to let you drive at those speed for obvious reasons. German police are well aware of that fact also.

Driving a German registered car in the UK this week some woman in a 4X4 made a new mortal enemy for life!

In August last year I stopped at a German Police speed check to see what speed I could drive at on the autobahn & I was told, " as fast as your car will go". I have quite a lot of experience of driving in Germany as I lived there for a few years in the late 60s & I go back for a few weeks most years.

Before I leave the UK, I always get a safety check done by my main dealer.
