2000 Fabia - Airbag light on

Featured Replies

Hi there,

Recently the air bag light on our Fabia came on and stayed on. Looking around this seems to be a common thing. I do have VAG COM, would it be worth trying to reset the code and see if the fault re-occurs?

Also, this occurred fairly soon after we discovered the common water leak through the bulkhead. I cleared the rubber bung in the bulkhead (a load of water came out) but I'm wondering whether perhaps a connection has corroded since or maybe it's completely unrelated?!

Any help/advice would be appreciated!

Many thanks,

Steve

The airbag ECU is underneath the dash below the stereo I believe. I suspect it's unrelated unless lots of water made its way into the car. Definitely worth taking note of the code and clearing it to see if it returns.

I doubt its got wet. Just scan section 15 and see what it says. Chances are one of the igniters has packed up and one of the airbags needs replacing. Or it might just put the light out and all is well again.

Thanks for the response guys - very helpful, I"ll see if I can get my VAG com connected and see what happens :)

Well I managed to get the VAG com kit connected and working. A couple of times now though the airbag light has come on with an intermittent resistance code on one of the airbag igniters - this seems to happen usually in cold weather. Is this a common issue people have found and would replacing the igniter fix the issue? Has anybody replaced theirs before?

Thanks! :)

Mega Bump - any ideas please? :)

I believe the airbags are replaced as a complete unit. Very expensive new from the dealers. Scrappie is a possibility. You may be able to disable the warning light somehow by messing about with resistors and the wiring (if needed for the MOT), but obviously your airbags will not work.

I'm not entirely convinced it is the airbag unit itself, although obviously not ruling it out - but what are the igniters like to replace? Also been advised by a garage of a 'slip ring' ??

Just to update, haven't logged on in a while - this was fixed by IAuto UK by fitting a new airbag slip ring and section of wiring harness. Light has been out ever since :)
