Xenon beam distance

Featured Replies

I was just wanting to check how far your Fabia Xenon beam distance goes. Sometimes I find I have to use my full beams on country roads, but have read that if xenons are set right you should never really need to use your full beams.

I had my alignment adjusted on Wednesday and on the drive home needed to use the full beam.

Cheers

J

who adjusted them though, as they have to be put in basic setting to adjust not like normal headlights

ah and i see you have flyeyes on your front headlights, take that off and the light output will be alot better i know from experience

They were just adjusted via opening the bonnet and turning the screw. Thing is, the car passed mot yesterday and the guy said the lights were perfectly aligned.

The levelling system has not worked for a while. Either the sensor has malfunctioned or the actually system in the bonnet has failed.

Is there only the one sensor on a Fabia?

I took that off a long time ago. Just never updated the sig;)

If you can see no better on main beam than just xenon's on dipped beam then the lights are set too high and you will be blinding oncoming traffic,

xenon's on dipped beam are very good, but they are not designed to give the distance main beam will give you.

+1

ANY film over the headlights is going to reduce there effectiveness.

Ah right thanks. I always thought they were for distance to.

They def aren't set to high. As I said they passed mot just fine. Thing is I was watching Traffic Cops last night and most of their cars are fitted with xenons. They were lighting up entire streets and back roads.

Yes they were driving Volvos and BMWs but I thought all xenon systems would be similar output/distance:)

Even sometimes on the motorway when passed by other cars, their beam seems to go a lot father than mine.

Never believe ANYTHING on TV. Those clips are all adjusted in post-production to make it all look 'right'.

Really?:S

I can understand the post production brightening up the shot. But you can clearly see the nice Xenon beam stretching a good bit in the distance

The cut-off line with a Xenon dipped beam isn't going to vary much from that of an ordinary bulb surely - since otherwise you'd be dazzling oncoming drivers. You're merely getting a brighter beam in the same area.

I thought the same about mine, driving to wales over xmas i was struggling to see in the rain, so much so when i got back i went straight to the garage to get them set up! They were fine. Only thing i can think of is the lamps, mine are 4300k i think and are osrams or phillips. Im going to upgrade to 5k i think as my mates renault megane 250 xenons are much brighter and slightly bluer. Beware of the cheaper lamps though as the salts used arent as good and colour change alot sooner than the top makes.

4300K are the brightest and whitest you can get, the higher the number the more blue and then purple the colour becomes.

Yeah i know, but theyre definetly less brighter than the rs 250 and my neighbours bmw 5 series, and the colour is different, so i dont know what else it could be.

Just the actual headlight. I`m sure Jase said ages ago when he got his yellow one that the xenons were not that amazing for dark roads, more for looks than performance.

I know I'm in the 'wrong' camp, but I had to raise the **** out of mine to make them vaguely useable. Before I messed about, could barely see 6 foot in front of mah riiiiide. Now I've got the distance I need. Just need some 5000k halogen foglights to match my main beam!

I find xenons are great on dark roads. Just not enough distance in mine.

The difference to normal headlights is a more complete output, in my opinion anyway

Glad it's not just me!

I have xenons on the Polo, and I have a lot of very bright light very close to the car.

Had them on the RX-8 too, and they were MUCH better - cast the light a lot further. I was parked up in a retail park after going into town one night and was giving afriend home. Her reaction to me turning the lights on was 'wow, they're bright!' which I thought was pretty good going for a car parked in a well lit area.

Maybe VAG just make rubbish lights?

I've heard that before about Vag cars, more so Skodas. Not sure what the xenons are like on Octavias or Superbs though.
