SE Plus versus Elegance

Featured Replies

A quick question - the SE Plus is being marketed as being between the SE and the Elegance but is a very similar price to the Elegance and quite a different spec.

I like some of the options on the SE Plus (e.g. Maxi Dot, MDI, sunset glass) but they aren't standard on the Elegance and this doesn't follow the 'better model adds to the lesser model scheme').

Is the Elegance on it's way out?

I dont think so but could be wrong.

The SE plus also has sat nav and blutooth but the sunset glass is only on the estate.

The Elegance has Dual zone Climate with the Jumbo box and cruise control which the SE plus hasnt got.

Quite a lot of differance between them really.

I had a similar dilemma in that I liked the SE Plus spec, but wanted cruse control and fog lights. When you take into account the 0% finance deal on the elegance it was a no brainer as I specced the elegance with the SE parts I wanted - bluetooth, MDI and maxidot.

The Elegance is not on its way out.

As CanaryAndy has mentioned, factored in with the 0% finance (finances permitting) the Elegance is an easy choice. If you can spec it up then even better still.

I'm a sucker for an armest, no matter how basic it is, but the Jumbo box is fantastic and cold.

Everyone is different but from a personal opinion an Elegance is my choice.

So between Elegance and SE Plus specs, Elegance is the higher of the 2 specs

So you would expect Elegance to have all the specs..........................and more than the SE PLUS

But that is not the case. For example, SE PLUS has bluetooth and MFSW as standard, the Elagance does not

im buying 2nd hand and its a pain in the arse, im looking for a car with bluetooth, cruise control and MFSW and neither of the above cars has all as standard

So I have to troll through sites and find an elegance or SE plus with the extra options I want

just on this again. Elegance is "supposedly" a better spec than SE plus

So you would expect elegance to be more expensive than an SE plus

Was just looking on autortader.co.uk on the 1.8 tsi engine and from the year 2011

Some 2011 SE plus models are £2000 dearer than an elegance with same mileage !! Weird

1.8 pricing seems to be all over the place there are so few it might be local demand,

you are dead right, 1.8 pricing is all over the shop, no sense to it at all

I passed on the 1.8 L&K manual hatch near us 40k 08 £7k

nothing close under £8k and progress are asking for £9.5k for similar

Dont forget that the bluetooth in the SE+ is I believe the old GSMII version, not the more current GSMIII like you get as a factory option on a new build, that will presumably affect you if you have certain phones, so certainly worth thinking about this.

I got my new SE+ estate this month - I seem to remember also looking at the Elegence but finding the SE+ better value for me - but I can't remember the details.

Bluetooth works perfectly with iPhone4 (phone, iPod playback via bluetooth).

I got it with added cruise control (very much appreciated) and auto-lights (waste of money). HTH

To be fair, if you have an iPhone 4 / 4s then you would want the GSMII unit, rather than GSMIII and RSAP. Is it an Amundsen Plus in the Octy SE Plus? If it is, it's not a separate BT Controller, but it's built into the head unit.

I think they are aimed at a different type of buyer. I have a 2nd hand Plus and as such the spec on the Plus more closely matched my requirements than the Elegance. It is different when ordering new, as discussed previously you can spec each with the required options to get your ideal car.

I would have liked an arm rest but the tech on the Plus appealed to me more. I'd like fog lights purely from an aesthetic point of view so I might get the units and fit them even though there won't be any cabling for them.

So which is **supposed** to be the higher spec. SE plus or Elegance ?

I think the Elegance is still supposed to be the higher spec.

Yes the Elegance is positioned as the better spec model but some people may find the SE Plus spec suits them more, just depends on what people want.

How is the jumbo box cold inside ? So my 07 Vrs has a mini fridge under the armrest?

Also why call it jumbo it's fairly small inside,I notice a tab thing in mine to that u can pull but not sure what it's for!

The Jumbo box is cooled inside by lifting the tab upwards to let in the cold air.

But where is the cold air coming from?
