Adaptive Cruise Control available soon?

Featured Replies

Has anyone heard if this will be possible to retrofit anytime soon? It was almost a deal breaker for me that Skoda could not be delivered with this, but dealer told me it might be available on the facelift coming.. don't know when.

Soo - what do you guys think? Will it be released with the facelift? And if yes; will it be possible to retrofit at a fair price?

TBH I don't think it will make cruise control much safer.

You should be driving the car not the car itself. I will only use cruise control to rest my right leg for a minute or two when safe.

If you feel tired, take a break. Otherwise not safe to continue even with adaptive cruise control and lane depart warning.

I don't get it. I don't get adaptive cruise control (or whatever other name it gets from various manufacturers) at all.

I love cruise control and I use it every day, whether on the motorway or in 30/40mph zones, depending on traffic levels. It makes keeping to the speed limit so mush easier. I reckon it's the most useful gadget I've ever had on a car. I'm convinced that it's saved me a few tickets and it helps with my fuel comsumption, BUT I would never switch on a system which then relies on the speed of other vehicles and the behaviour of other drivers. My cruise control is controlled by me and not the car in front. If I'm on the motorway and the car in front is slower then I'll just pull out to overtake and maintain my own speed, not his.

I had it on my Honda Legend. It works great but you just can't relax and trust it. I ended up just using the standard cruise, and only turned the adaptive on for showing off purposes :giggle:

Don't know what happened my original reply?!

I'd be a little un-trusting of adaptive cruise control too I have to say - but I wouldn't be without the standard cruise control!

I wish I lived near motorways where you could always do that!

Brilliant system, that with lane assist and the car will drive itself.

I dont think it will ever make it to the Superb. Skoda are trying to differentiate other models like the VW Passat from the Superb and have the Superb as a lesser spec'd model. The Superb is currently outselling the Passat, and with its current spec level the profit margin is to small and VAG do not like it. There answer has been to slowly reduce standard kit on the Superb, eg. gone is the spare wheel, the umbrella disappeared for a while but is now back and so on. If the Superb were to get it, then expect it to be a rather pricey optional extra.

Correction, VAG are trying to differentiate :p . Sadly, you are correct though, and they are trying to make skoda a more 'budget' (AKA cheapy) brand :'(

Nothing depriciative or low brandish about the new Superb L&K though...

I hope this is not true! The amount of kit for them money is why I have a Superb on order. It is also the reason I bought a Fabia 3 back in 2008. Was a lot of kit for the money. If they make the Skoda more budget I would not move to buying a VW, especially not a Passat. I would be forced to buy other non-VW group cars and they would loose sales across the group.

I hope the Superb remains truly Superb :-)

I wouldn't buy a VW either. I like the up! But skoda and seat make versions of it, and I like the touareg but you can get better cars for less. I think even if skoda made their prices higher than VW, they would still sell more

Thank you for an actual answer to my question ;)

I drive a lot on curvy roads with speed limits varying all the time, and other drivers don't seem to pay attention to that. So they brake up and accelerate in a way that makes it demanding to use regular cruise control, that's why I want the adaptive one.

But I find it strange if it's VAG policy not to offer this on the Superb, as most of the other options eventually make it to Skoda after they've squeezed the VW and Audi buyers' lemons for a few years. Why would they suddenly stop now?

I'm not too sure what "Adaptive Cruise Control" is BUT Cruise Control in general for me is a 100% must have! I drive a lot on French Autoroutes and after 30 mins or so my hips (yes - I'm getting on in years and have hip problems) start to ache so I have to be able to move my legs without slowing the car down unnecessarily. It's interesting how, when using Cruise Control, you tend (or at least I do) to be far more aware of approach speeds of other vehicles behind you and deciding when is the best time to pull out to overtake.

As a matter of fact, I also use cruise control when towing the caravan - its a real boon. HOWEVER, you have to stay alert at all times and watch out for those who seem to have a death wish on motorways. Also, cruise control is not such a good idea in wet ar icy conditions.

Here endeth my epistle on Cruise Control.
