215/45/17 Vrs

Featured Replies

Hi

Currnetly have 205/50/17s. Looking at tyre prices and 215/45/17 are coming in £50 cheaper than 250/50/17 or 225/45/17.

I am aware the slight size diameter reduction of 12mm or 1.8% which is within the 2.5% recommended on tyre size calculator site. Its probably comparable to a bald set of 205/50/17 :smirk:

Also this size appears popular in 17" on the G*lf Mkiv site. Noticed a lot of scoobys also use 17" 7J wheels with this tyre option.

A couple of tyre manufacturers sites do seem to recommend a 7.5J wheel with 225/45/17 which makes me uncomfortable with this option.

So are there really any major issues?

I had 225 45 17 on during the summer, harsher ride, not much more grip and poorer fuel economy. I'm going back to 205 come spring. Falken 452s are cheaper on camskill for 205 at the moment. I recommend them as well as others

Ours runs on 225/45/17 from the factory. Not a VRS, but elegance with Pegasus alloys.

I used to run 215/45/17's on my 17's on my classic s40, considered swopping to these on vrs

Have found 4x Barum Bravuris 2 fully fitted etc., for less than camskill 4x FK452 without fitting. FK452 were 1st option but Barums appear similar in performance.

Camskill doing ZE912 215/45/17 for £57.50 each which is a possibility if 215's are ok.

Just put on 225/40/18 Falken ZE912 £269.00 for set of four. :) On the drive home I personally thought it felt so much better, that may change though.

Can I just say before the FK452 brigade arrives, I didn't want them no good for me..

Its funny I don`t rate Kumho`s, but each to their own. People seem to forget different people have different driving styles, therefore its not a 1 size fits all.

Yeh but only happy with them lasting just over 6 months like my ku39's did last year!

I don't think you'd have a problem with 215/45s. If you do go for them, let us know!
