split dump valve pipe

Featured Replies

Just changed the battery on my car, looks like it was still on the original :giggle: I noticed the pipe on the top of my forge dump valve was badly split I fixed it no probs but just wondered what issues this would have caused? I've not had a CEL and not noticed any running issues, maybe even with a split it was creating enough vacuum?

I've had to remove the engine cover as this was rubbing on it causing the split :wonder:

if there's no change in driving behavior then there's nothing to worry about

on vacuum the engine would have sucked in unmetered air (depending on the size of the split)

on boost it would have leaked (depending on the severity it could have not held the DV shut on full boost or just dump some small quantity of air into atmosphere)

So it would have caused more dumping rather than over working the turbo?

yep

that's alright then

If it was split then there wouldn't have been enough vacuum to pull the DV open so it would have been opening on the boost pressure only, not great on the turbo as most of the boost would've been stalling the turbo before the DV releases it. As long as you don't run around like that for months on end it should be fine though.

The cars been driven very lightly recently, slipping clutch and cold weather have stopped me thrashing it. Hadn't noticed any difference, I think it had only split very recently.
