Cam shaft kit

Featured Replies

Dont supose anybody has heard on any company that does a fast road cam shaft kit?

What for?

If its for the vRS in the profile then no kits as such.

But it's the last bit in a long list of tuning, some companies can reprofile yours, but there are claims of reliability as they loose the hardening after unless it's redone. Also remember the camshaft has multiple lobes as it also runs the injectors.

Ye sorrys its for a fabia vrs im actualy on rrbuilding the head at the moment as my head gasket had gone n the buckets 1,3,8 all have diveta in been told its due to the car been run on the wrong oil at some point so its going to be a new cam shaft kit just thought if i was replaceing it id see if there was any sorta uprated cam out there

If nothing else is done to the engine it wouldn't work anyhow.

Car has been remaped and when its al built back up its getin hybred turbo etc just wanted 2 explore options since the engine was in bits also makes more sence to do it now

Hi,

They do sell 'uprated' camshafts, see link:

I remember Allard testing one in their race car and it made no difference at all.

Remember a diesel takes longer time to combust fuel compared to petrol which limits it to relatively low revs. Therefore retarding the timing is not effective way of increasing power.

Lastly, who is going to adjust the map timing - I know of only 1 or 2 people capable with experience of trying this on 1.9/ 2.0 vag tdi engine.

I hope this helps?

John

BTW do you have an fmic?

If by timing you mean the start of injection? Then it's simple enough. Theirs 9 SOI maps for the general running of the engine. Which one is used is dependant on coolant temp.

These maps tend to only get touch when you enter the 200bhp range to help increase the duration window. Some people say increasing can help with mpg.

Yes, timing = soi.

I guess the sports cam would retard the soi by about 3 degrees.

Hows your remap project going did you get sort out the 'over boost' - thought it might have something to do with the electronics lagging behind the mechanical affects of increasing fuel and/or boost.

I was involved with 2004 Le Mans P1 Taurus Sports project which was based on a touareg 5.0 tdi engine - they used wastegated turbos as the regs didn't permit vg's. Anyway, the engineer said he would have less problems with torque spikes compared to a vg turbo.

Sorry but you've got the wrong page, that's for VE pump engines. This one's for new PDE engines (including ASZ and BLT).

Thanks fOr this lads but ive just opted to get a original cam from vw and the car wil b back togetha soon

  • 2 weeks later...

I had a dbilas cam on my pd130 golf

Totally pointless!!

  • 2 years later...

The piper fast road cam is nuts. Friend of mine fitted one to his 1.9tdi octavia yesterday, and the difference is huge!

I want I want I want! :)

Now about Newman cams http://www.newman-cams.com/

They do a PD performance cam.

I think Lloyd use newman on his race car without a measureable performance increase
