Looks like a range rover evouqe

Yuk!

I've seen this in the metal at the Frankfurt Motor Show last yeat. Fine from the front, very low and car like from the side but utterly yuck from behind.

The side profile reminds me of the Fabia and the Evoque.

I think it looks alright, it would be better if they get rid of the lines on both the front and rear wings.

Perhaps what's more worrying is that the doors don't seem to align properly.

I would definitely look at it if its the same price as the Yeti.

Suicide doors don't need to fit properly to serve their purpose!

Didn't they get hammered for their poor safety rating several years ago?

Ssangyong have form on this eg the Rodius: "The rear end of the car, in particular, is a sock to the jaw. It appears to be in the process of giving birth to another car. Either that, or it has reversed at high speed into a pig shed and has ended up fused with it." (reference)

I see they have chosen to follow the herd with windows that get smaller towards the rear. I dislike that for two reasons. Firstly, it makes the rear passenger accommodation unnecessarily gloomy. And secondly, it restricts vision to your rear quarters - I prefer to back up a look in the driving mirrors with a life-saver style check over the shoulder.

Not keen on those rear suicide doors, either; apart from anything else, they appear to have nicked the idea from the Mini Clubman. But then they nicked the overall shape from the Evoque, so plagiarism seems to be the order of the day for them!

I hate the looks of the Rodius, but it remains the only car I would buy if I want a 7 seater - cheap, reliable, very spacious - 7 seats + luggage and not as naff as the Voyager.

That was my initial impression as well. As super-cool as it appears, it doesn’t look all that functional. emoticon-0145-shake.gif

Is it just me, but the more Evoque's I see on the road (particularly the 3 door) the less I like them. They look over-styled in a 'blingish' way.

I'm sure they're great to drive, but as soon as you check out the prices you just think "are they kidding?"!!

I reckon that the Evoque will date quite quickly. A bit like Mondeos and Fiestas - they look great when launched but after a while seem so bland. The Evoque is also stupidly expensive for what it is.

The Yeti seems to be one of those rare cars where the design looks more 'right' as time goes by.

The odious Rodius that others mention was also designed by a Brit (can't immediately recall his name) so we cannot even blame hideous design on it coming from another culture. They are popular with Airport Taxi drivers - must be solely down to the cavernous boot space.

I thought the same of the previous Honda Civic. It looked so space age and I though it would date VERY quicly. When the current Civic monstrosity came out a few months ago I realised the old one had not dated and still looks smashing (to my eyes). So avant-garde design does not always date quickly. The new Range Rover out later this year will have some of the Evoque's styling queues as will the next Range Rover Sport. That will make the Evoque look less avant-garde giving it a "family" look and will further cement the fact that it won't date.

That the Evoque costs too much for the amount of metal you get is a given. But that has never stopped people lusting after Prada handbags or Louis Vutton luggage. They are also stupidly expensive relative to the size of what you get. Does not seem to bother their sales does it? Designer items work on a different plane than plane Jane items like a Yeti were mere mortals expect a certain amount of metal per buck. The "designer" world does not work that way. So bleating on about how expensive the Evoque is for what you get, just amplifies how little the bleater knows about basic luxury economics. ;) The Evoque will sell like hotcakes and will go down as one of the most successful cars Land Rover has ever launched. One of the most profitable too. Not bad in a time when SUVs are seen as enemy number one by most people.

I don't know which "designer" first had the idea to lower the rear roofline on 4X4s but I think he is an idiot! :giggle:

From the outside it looks as if any rear seat passengers have to sit hunched up to prevent their heads coming into the roof.

In my opinion the Evoque and the Audi and BMW equivalents just look as if they've been in an accident.

Fred

Not so much a 'bleater', more in complete disbelief that people will pay such a price for a part bin special built in a factory that struggled to make Ford Escorts properly, and then had a bash at making the Jag X Type. I'm not bleating, simply gasping.

It's a rare but very clever trick that the Indian owners have pulled off at Range Rover.

I am quite happy with my M&S placcy bag instead of the Samsonite shoulder bag that could do the same job

yuk yuk yuk

As are all the mortals that the Evoque is NOT aimed it. Mere mortals that move on a level several rungs below Posh Beckham et al won't (and don't) get the Evoque. :giggle: :giggle: Nor are they in fact supposed to. It is for a select few.

I'm also happy with my mere-mortal Yeti thank you very much. hehehe

. . . than plane Jane items like a Yeti . . . .

How dare you, that's sacrilige!! Wash your mouth out Johann, then write out 100 times: "the Yeti is the best looking vehicle in it's class. . ."

I'm not sure that the Evoque will age that well, due to its fussy design. It's a bit like the Sport, put it next to a Range Rover and it's the older design that has a timeless appeal even if the rear end still looks a bit like a London cab. Actually, whenever you see one of the original 1970's Range Rovers, they still look like the real deal.

The Sport on the other hand makes you look like you were hoping that a little of the initial sparkle and shine of the car will have rubbed off on to you and made you the envy of all your friends and other passer by's. Instead, people daren't look you in the eye because they assume you are a drug dealer or a criminal, or worse still a WAG :giggle:

Land Rover are lucky car company though, in that having the experience and talent, in buckets full, to do the bits you never see, they have a greater percentage of the budget to invest in the design. It's just a pity that with the Evoque they spent it with someone who only ever uses a straight edge, instead of someone who invested in a set of french curve's when they were at design school

Love it...

Next to an Evoque the boxy Yeti is plane Jane. Compared to its natural competitors the Yeti is also a plain Jane box on wheels in my eyes. BUT that is its charm! Form follows function with the Yeti. So it might not be a beauty on the catwalk but it is honest and that is what makes people love it. It is a design that is not trying to sell you a Ferrari with 4x4 running gear and a coupe body shape. It does exactly what the body form is telling you.

Agree totally. I'm more than happy with Yeti design (aft of the A pillar at least - hopefully Yeti FL will do something about the first bit).

But the criticism I most often encounter about the Yeti is how much like a van it looks. I know what they mean, though it doesn't bother me much. What I can't work out (because I have no car designer genes I'm sure) is why that should be, when something like a Defender, which is - originally at least - the epitome of functionalism, wouldn't be mistaken for a van in the same way. Must admit that I wouldn't have minded the Yeti to have been slightly more macho or perhaps military (what am I trying to say here? Maybe more just traditional 4x4) in looks - get as far away from 'crossover' as possible in my book while keeping the Yeti form factor and size. Don't know what styling changes that would take though.
