I'd jump on that offer anytime, Stimps.

He he. It's Dutch for Bon Apetite, which is French for Enjoy your Meal, which is American for Gute Mahlzeit, which is German for... uhm... oh, you English don't have anything which it translates too :D

The sambal bij is just a catchphrase out of a Dutch commercial (of which I can't even remember the product it was advertising, thats how good it was ;)).

Why are you leaving out the best bit, Q? I'm sure our Stimps would want to taste some sambal. :D

I'm actually not that keen on sambal myself. Don't like spicy stuff... except for baby spice... wrhaooah ;)

I Lurv sambal - mmmmmmm. The one I liked most was some they had in little packets in the canteen at my company's HQ - never found anything to touch it in the shops ... :(

German - is guten appetit - at least thats what the German side of my family used to say at the table before eating. That mahlzeit word used to crop up too sometimes.

BTW - I'm more German than English, by parentage, beware! :D - Ja, wohl! :D

I'd pick the sambal over Baby Spice any day.

Sorry, what the #### is Sambal? :D

Sambal is Bahasa Indonesian for sauce. Typical Indonesian sambals have tons of the large red (not too hot) chillies together with tomatoes and various other bits & bobs like ginger, galangal etc in them and then are altered to taste with the little birds eye chillies. Having been to Bali far too many times for my own good I even learnt to cook the various Balinese dishes - beautiful food and the most friendly people you will ever meet :D Have got loads of balinese friends and the island is in real trouble at the moment with tourists avoiding the place - terrible shame since the terrorism has nothing to do with the Balinese themeselves. :(

So, er, wiring... :)

Rob.

oops - sorry!

Ok...sounds nice :)

Wiring, Rob? Erm... Q did mention the possibility of having a fridge "back there" on day - so he could erm, keep Sambal in it? :D

No need to keep the sambal chilled ;)

It's all my fault though when I wished Stimps a lovely dinner.

But yes, back to wiring. Any recommendations as to what gauge (?) wire I should use for the +ve?

In this case, bigger is better.

I have to admit to owning the Haynes/Max Power ICE Manual, which does actually cover this quite well if I remember correctly. I was going to find the book last night and copy what it had to say, but having that chinese (well, curry, rice, prawn crackers and chicken balls) pretty much left me in no state to look things up, let alone move! 49.gif

Will try and find it tonight and see what it has to say...

But what is bigger? I can't make heads or tails from the descriptions on the net. It's like a different language...

BTW - I used an autoleads Amp wiring kit, which is rated at 30A. Includes some speaker cable, earth lead and the remote wire as well.

Aaah, good old Maplins... Saved a bundle today and bought 5m red 4AWG (70A) cable, a Fuse holder, a fused distribution block (1 to 2) and some sundries. But no fuses :( They only sold them in 5 packs, and because I had no idea which ones to buy, I left them behind.

Need your expertise now Stimps :D

Oh, and any idea what the best location is to get the power cable from the battery through to the compartiment? Is there a hole somewhere that I can use? Or do I have to resort to drilling a hole somewhere myself?

Q.

no just a very large hammer and centre punch

Q - somewhere on the driver's side there should be a grommet very low down I think - you really need someone with a vRS (Andre?) to tell you where to stick it...

Q,

ran 4 gauge cable from batt to boot on my car... couldnt get through any grommets so drilled some holes in the floorpan under the front footwell - ran the cable down the sill to the boot.

Then silicone sealed round the hole to stop any corrosion...

bit ott but its the only way to run big cable - and big cable is the only way to run lots of current.

Paul, so the cable is still running inside the car yeah? I wonder if I can find a friendly bridge to put it on to see what I can use underneath the car...

For power cable the fuse need to be within 18" of the battery. For expansion later it would be best to put a distribution block behind the dash. To run cables down the car power down one side and RCA cables down the other then if possible speaker cables down the centre as there is less chance of picking up noise. For RCA cables to AV equipment, best to earth both ends of the RCA's as they are prone to noise.

This is what i put into my Cup

Hopefully to be transfered to a vRS very soon.

what exactly is that on your dash screen? Seems to be showing a lot of "flesh tones".......:D

Ross, that's exactly what I thought too :D

You'd think that kind of malarky would be a bad idea with such a nice clean cloth interior!
