Octy II 2.0 FSI - engine any good or problematic

Featured Replies

Just wondering about the reliability and overall economy of the early 2005/06 2.0 FSI non turbo.

I ran a Mk2 VRS PD170 for a year with no issues, considering a 2.0 FSI as price tends to be 50% less than a PD105/140 lump.

Any advice appreciated cheers.

I've just got my VRS 2.0TFSI back and although there have not been any engine issues, the mechanic told me that the Octavia II had numerous faults. If you have the means, go for an Octavia III (facelift), which apparently has a different/newer engine

If the FL's engine had that many faults & problems do you honestly think that it would have sold so many? I don't think so.

I think your grease monkey has been pulling your timing chain.

Allways used to carry a spare coil pack in the boot of my 2.0FSI. RAC could work out which one had gone, but never had a spare. 5 mins for them to change it. Had 3 go over the 75,000 miles I had that car.

My 2.0 FSi was not bad but not great The 1.8TSi so opened my eyes that I wouldn't touch the FSi now. Engine didn't go wrong but air con and cat did. Gearbox was a bit notchy.

Thanks for replies. Coils packs I suspected might be an issue, as they are on the Mk1.

Not looking to spend a whole lot of money so a 05/06 car possibly on the cards.

Don't want another VRS and from experience, the PD140/170 engines don't get more than 43 avg mpg so not worth the extra money. The 1.9 PD 105bhp is too slow for me.

I am more interested in common problems such as early DPF's and Injector Failures (both recall fixes) on the 2.0 PD units.

I think you need to go back and read what he wrote! :wonder:
