My first car error after 7 years

Featured Replies

Hello there (I am new member)

I registered here today cause yesterday I got my first error on my car after 7 years.

I have a Skoda Octavia 1.9TDI, 4x4, 2002mod, ATD engine, 249682km

All services have been longlife and followed every 30000km.

I am VERY happy with the car and my next will be Skoda.

Yesterday the car did not respond to gas pedal...

atfer 10min when I tried to give more gas it started barking lika a "nice" dog... wow, wow, wow, wow

I stopped the car and looked in the engine room (I know nothing here) but it looked like

the dynamo and the wire (multi...something) was standing still, even if the motor was on.

Today they called from the workshop and told me that it was nothing wrong except the diesel filter and

when motor is idle he thinks I was fooled by my eyes to think that it was not turning.

I also had no error lamps in the car. not even the charging lamp, and all lamps works when I start the car.

Please tell me what words to use if something is wrong with my english like:

lamp = light? or LED?

Multiwire = DynamoWire?

Thank you

This is shortly me and my car ;-)

Hello knutklo and welcome along :thumbup:

Your better posting your questions in the relevant Octavia forum :yes:

Welcome.

I should post your question in the Octavia I forum for more responses. Also they didn't sell the mkI 4x4 with a diesel engine in the UK so your car may be different to the our cars.

By dynamo do you mean alternator? What was the problem with the fuel filter?

The dynamo is the thing that generates electrisity to the car, yes it says alternator on translate.google.com, thank you ;-)

I will post future things in the octavia forum.

Thank you both trundlenut and alkip ;-)

Hi and welcome aboard.

The windings in the alternator that you can see through the vent holes are stationary, they rotor turns inside it, you can't normally see that part, just the fan that fits to the back of it.

Yes I know that now, thank you ;-)

gas pedal cut out? possibly dirty fuel filter as workshop have identified?

How much of the alternator can you see? On my 110TDI it is pretty well hidden...

Have the garage scanner for fault codes? They can be logged without the engine management light being illuminated on the dash.
