Gone up by £100 in two weeks

Featured Replies

My renewal's due soon so I go online at Adrian Flux to get a quote for my Superb and I add the mods that I'm thinking of doing – standard +30bhp remap and suspension. I fill in all the correct details and get the quote back for £579. This was on 31 January.

Today I phone up to book the insurance to be told it's now £689 :o

So in 2 weeks it's gone up by £110?

Can someone explain what that's all about please?

probably gave you a new customer discount or something similar when quoting it online

I had this with the Ibiza's insruance last week (although not wiv Flux) online = £400, renewal letter comes through £500, phone them up to query and get told a new customer discount is applied online

But I am a new customer? Or at least I would have been had they not increased the price by £110 in two weeks

Unless having insurance with them 2 years ago makes me an existing customer :S

Doing it online seems to always be cheaper than over the phone. Probably saves them money if people buy online as they don't have to pay so many call centre staff and you can print docs out yourself rather than having them mail them to you. I would've done the quote online again and if it was still that cheap online bought it then and there.

And no response from Adrian Flux?

And another week goes by and it's gone up by another £50 :wall:

Insurance companies truly do take the pi55.

So, 40 years old, home owner, 2 kids, car worth less than £4k, 8 years no claims and it's come to £700, albeit with remap, suspension mods and an SP30 declared. Expensive business this driving malarky :(

Makes my £505 renewal with Flux (with declared mods and 300bhp ceiling) seem like a bargain. Similar boat with 8 years no claims.

It's all about the postcode, and it's parked on the road. But seriously, who's going to nick a 7 year old Skoda Superb? Wish I lived in Devon :giggle:

Yeah, I'm in a good postcode and car is parked off the road - can't even see it from the driveway entrance unless you're being nosey. It's tucked away :D

To all the guys with af... I phoned up and there a broker?

Is the insurance actually with af or some back street outfit??

For most of us on here it seems to be with Equity Red Star, I would assume they're the insurer Flux use for most of the modified stuff (and probably get the best commission rate from)

Is it worth contacting Equity Red Star directly? Seen as AF aren't responding?

Give LV a call on the phone rather than online and see what they offer.

If you've got a lot of NCB then they seem to be quite good.

  • 3 weeks later...

AVIVA insurance using Swindon...£177.62 no mods and only 5 years NC :D

The underwriter is Highway (as it was for my modified Octavia), and they're part of LV, but you can't contact Highway direct, only through brokers :wonder:

LV don't insure modified cars

Yes adrian flux is a broker, just like A-plan, swinton, Bewiser.

Unfortunately, Insurance premiums change from month to month, sometimes the prices go up, sometimes down. they use historical information and how many claims have gone on in the last month or so. hence why they can only quote for 30 days in advance as the premiums change.

Not much consolation to us the motorist!

What you need to ask is how fee has been placed on the premium by the broker. under FSA rules they need to tell you when they do, but most of them dont. And i dont mean the Bull**** admin fee either.

I used to be in insurance and the wife has passed all the exams for it. so any questions shoot.

cant wait to see what they can do for me this year. Sky insurance who found through here are only asking 642 with a list of mods that i want to do. happy days.

Flux want 1000 for standard skyline and 1500 for modded one...

Hence the skoda is now getting a big pile of attention.
