Two Fault Codes

Featured Replies

Just read the fault codes on my car and was wondering if anyone knew what they relate to in terms of what needs to be done to remedy them.

1st Code: 16500- Engine coolant Temperature Circuit-Range/Performance problem.

I've not had any problems with overheating however on the drive home from Derby today I noticed the temperature would sometimes drop and then raise back to dead centre again a few minutes later. Did this about 5 times in 160miles. Could this be the related problem and is this a common fault with a common fix?

2nd Code: 16522- 02 Censor circuit- High Voltage (Bank1 Sensor 2)

No idea about this code any1 ever had this code before?

Thanks for all your help so far guys hopefully by the end of this weekend my skoda will be working great again :)

I personally would change the thermostat housing, it's pretty cheap and easy to do. It could just be the sensor but the housing comes with one of them anyhow. What can happen is the bracket inside the housing comes adrift and touches the sensor causing odd readings, but the stats are pretty common to fail.

Possible fault there with the post cat lambda probe but I'd fix the above, clear codes and test.

Ok thanks looks like I've got a lot of work to do never had so many problems arise with a car within two weeks of buying it might just park it until easter when I've got time to fix all the faults and buy something reliable in the mean time for getting to and from Uni :( Car's are nightmares sometimes.

They can be, but the MPi has a few common issues but once they are sorted it's a good little motor.

I fitted a new thermostat housing to mine, replaced the head gasket and fitted a bigger battery and it's been faultless for the last three or four years (touch wood).

Yeah thats why I bought one from people saying they were good little motors but seems I've got all the common faults on this and a few more, ah well I need a car that runs so I'll probably just park it up and fix the faults myself in my own time and run something else until the skoda's sorted. In theory it should have plenty life left with 64000 and full service history but its not really road worthy with the powersteering as it is and headlights that turn off and /or flicker as they please

All you need is a battery though for the other fault though I would think.

And the two fault codes you have won't stop you driving it anyhow. Thermostat housing is about £45 iirc, takes about 30mins to change max.

Yeah battery will be done in the morning so I'll see if that sorts the power steering out fingers crossed its just that, I'd read earlier though in the skoda manual that if the power steering fluid is low then the power steering light wont come on at start up and mine doesn't show up and power steering fluid levels don't normally drop unless there's a leak. But I'll see in the morning. Have few other faults I haven't bothered listing as it doesn't stop the day to day driving just a lot of faults to all sort out.

So if I dont get the thermostat housing done this weekend is it still safe to drive for a couple weeks until I'm next reunited with my garage and tools? Not going to cause other faults from that being broken?

As long as its not over heating then yeah.
