02 fabia rear right seat belt question

Featured Replies

i needed to replace the rear right seat belt as a dog i was looking after chewed through it and the MOT is due up. So the replacement second hand part is wound right up to the buckle and the safety lock wont let me pull it any longer than an inch before the lock kicks in. also when i removed the chewed one, that wound up as well and now that also wont let me pull it out longer than an inch after the buckle.

im thinking it is a safety feature maybe that once it gets past a certain point it kicks in. im sure its something simple to get it going again but i have tried everything to prying the safety leaver open within the mechanism but as its connected at both sides it still kick in.

can anyone please help as the mot is due in the middle of the week,

thanks, alan

Are you holding it at the same angle as when fitted?

Hold the belt reel at the same angle as it would be in the car and pull the belt out very gently. Some belts will not pull out unless the angle is right.

thanks very much fopr the reply but i am definitely pulling at the right angle, very confusing.

If you have a problem, you could completely remove it for the MOT. The rear seat belt requirements are:

In forward facing rear seats any of the following:

a.

3 point inertia reel belt on an outboard seat and a 3 point static or inertia reel belt, lap belt, disabled persons belt or child restraint for at least one other seat; or

b.

static 3 point belt for one seat and a disabled person’s belt or child restraint for at least one other seat; or

c.

3 point belt, lap belt, disabled person’s belt or child restraint to each seat.

For requirement a, it would be satisfied by a 3 point belt on the left and a lap belt or 3 point belt in the centre.

Yes, I agree. Shot in the dark-try setting it up as it would be in the car and tap the unit sharply, hopefully this will reset the balls inside. Then pull the belt gently in the direction it would normally go. If this fails, keep pulling it backwards and forwards as much as it will go, with a bit of luck it will start pulling out further. Brute force will not work as it just locks up( not that I think you have tried that).
