Quick Driveshaft Question.

Hey,

Finally chose which clutch I'm going for, my mate is doing the work on my car, but he's asked "are the driveshafts bolted on with the torx//spline kinda things like a MK4 Golf?" also does the gearbox hit the subframe?

If anyone knows that'd be cool, also anything anyone else would change while the gearbox and clutch is out.

There are others, but that's what's in mine. I've read that the Wavetrac diff is a newer, better design and is more "transparent" but only ever driven my car with Quaife. It's a little bit snatchy and can take you by surprise and I'm not 100% sure how much difference it makes to cornering (as I went from a Leon with just springs/shocks to a Fabia with coilovers, RARB, front strut and diff) but I'm told it's night and day.

How do you remove driveshafts? And what requires to be moved to allow gearbox to come out?

Driveshafts are held in the diff by 6 spline bolts. Easiest way to undo is hang on to a front wheel whilst they get undone - this is how the offside shaft came out my fabia the other day. To get out the hub though you need to undo the bottom ball joint so the hub can shift away from the car to release the spline back through the hub. Replace the hub nut too!

To get gearbox out too you need to remove the whole subframe - so thats all the subframe and both sides' bottom ball joints.
