Tyres. What Can I Expect To Get?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Can anyone tell me what I can expect to get mileage wise out of conti sport contact 3's on my octy vrs TDI?

Unfortunately I picked up a nail in the side wall of one of mine yesterday and have just been stung for £155 for a replacement only to be told I need another on the opposite side????.

Any advice offered is much appreciated.

Regards

Neil

Usually get 18k for the front and that's fully laden.

22k plus on rear.

One thing to watch out for is the speed/load rating when they are being replaced. 225/40/18 Y 92 (Estate).

Ive just past 10k miles and fronts have another 2k tops on them by the looks if it.

Normally I swap front to back but missed my chance this time (too low to bother)

Goodyears or michelins going on next as contis are noisy

I swapped mine around mid-life and got 28k out of the full set, prob had another 1k if I'm honest out of the rears but they got junked when I put my winters on in November.

I'm pretty certain I'm going for a set of Asymetric2's in a month or so when the weather starts to warm up.

Remember best tyres should always be on the back

Rubbish tyres on the back is more fun ;)

Maybe but accidents arent

If you loose the front in the wet when you lift off it often regains grip

If you loose the rear in the wet & lift off the back of the car gets lighter & grip gets less, hense many backwards exits from corners

My SC2's are coming up on 15k miles and there is still a fair amount of meat left on them. These are the tyres that came with my Octy vRS when I bought it in early April last year.

I've been really impressed with the Continental tyres thus far - so will almost certainly be sticking to the brand come the time I need to replace them.

I think they found a batch of old tyres sat in a corner for my new vrs, my 2010 model had SC3's on and the new 2012 model has SC2's. Mind you, the SC3's only did 9000 miles, so maybe the 2's are a bit harder!
