Is it me or do garages like destroying sills?

Featured Replies

My sills under the car look like someone has attacked them haha, Noticed after i went to a fast fit for wheel balancing that used a trolley jack. Wish places would treat your car with respect!

You went WHERE . :giggle:

Only one place more I'd take mine than Kwak Fat .

They're all retired members of the bodgers and hackers club .

lol was cheap haha and halfords didnt have the stick on weights :p

Mine are all intact thankfully.

All four corners of mine are flat.

I give them a print out of the the official jacking points in the pinned section above. Then make them read it and follow it. Tyre places are the worst as they seem to have a transient workforce.

Perhaps mine are made of sterner stuff, are always jacked up by garages on the lip it seems yet they still look like new?

Mine are fooked thanks to whoever has squashed them in the past. :swear: It's on my list of things to do this summer, bend them back out and then seal them with gunk to cover the metal that's exposed by the sealant cracking. Just out of interest, is the floorpan galvanised?

One tire place stuck a jack right through my oil cooler

It does take the mick They try and get you in and out in doble quick time without any consideration for your car! I never use **** fit i mean quick fit after finding that they did not tighten my wheel nuts properly on my last car the only reason i noticed was due to the wheel shaking!

I'm quite fortunate in that I'm a mechanic and do all my own work including tyres so all my sills are how they left the factory, but across from my work there is a tyre place, they do mostly part worn tyres and do all the fitting outside, every car they jack it under the sill,I cringe every time I see it.

Mine are bent on all corners, done before i bought it :(

Another thing to look out for - my handbook says torque wheelnuts to 120Nm. One place I went to thought this was FT/lb

i went to a place in brakley where they bent one sill ,nicked my wheel nut cover remover and then reversed my car into another car! I dont go there anymore! Lol :)

Me personally when I put my vrs on the ramps at work I put them on the sills at the front never had any probs

Just re shaped both front sills, took all the rust off, seam sealed them and applied paint. Looks like new again, another job off my to do list.

I got fed up of garages flattening my sills so purchased the tt jacking pads easy to fit.

oh chicken what would we do without you :p should become a briskoda octavia Guru! :p

Got mine from awesome gti. Cost around 30 quid I think.

Only took 5 min to fit. All you need is washing up liquid and a trolley jack to fit.

These pads are designed for a lift, not a jack...no?

All credit to Bowders and Bodge, I wouldn't have learnt anything about the Mk1 Octy if it wasn't for their past threads.

And all you newbies... use the SEARCH before you ask about a mod someone else has done, saves me digging up all these past threads and reposting links to them
