Difference between a 1.9 and a vRS

Featured Replies

After selling my vRS a while back to get a bigger family car (got an A4 1.9TDi Quattro Sport), and then getting a mk4 Golf so that the Mrs could have a Bora TDi, I cant contain my withdrawals any more.

My problem is I cant afford a vRS, but I could get a standard Fabia and change the bodykit etc.

But I was wondering if theres anything other than cosmetics that need to be changed (ie hubs, etc).

If I remember correctly, the suspension and hubs are different, but I'll be getting weitec coilovers again, so would only need hubs and 312 brakes.

So, the list would go:

Hubs

Suspension (which will be coilys)

Brakes, (which would be 312's)

Bodykit,

Interior trim

Turbo (which will be hybrid)

Exhaust (which will be homemade)

Have I missed anything?

TIA

Dave

Im pretty sure I read on here a while back someone (maybe Jason) saying that the actual blocks weren't identical. That aside you need larger injectors, 6 speed box, air intake possibly too.

Surely after all the costs of that you'll comfortably be able to afford a vrs?

My thoughts too. Why not just get an older vRS - they are around £3k now I think for a 53/04 plate with a fair amount of mileage.

You think?

I knew about Jason's build as I followed it years ago, and seen it at my local track a few times (castle combe).

Ive seen standard cars for £800 (no tax, spares or repairs). Can sell the old stuff to subsadise the new stuff. and if I bought an RS, i'd be doing the brakes/coilys anyhow, so trying to bare that in mind.

Forgot about the bigger injectors and 6spd. But with a hybrid turbo, I'd be getting new injectors anyway.

Not saying people are wrong about price, just debating.

IMO with the cost of the internals and upgrades required it would be cheaper and easier to get an actual VRS or offer Jason a wad of notes ;)

You don't need bigger injectors on a pd130 for a hybrid turbo, and they are pricey. Unless your talking about a mint PD100 with a blown turbo for pennies then I'd say itll still be cheaper to just buy a vrs.

Don't forget your insurance by the time you've declared that lot, over just buying a vRS and mapping it...

Damn, you just read my mind. :D The only thing in its favour is a pd100 is group 6 whereas a vRS is group 9. You could keep the 5 speed box and fit a bigger clutch. There are people running 200+ (as in 250 odd....) through this gearbox which is strong, but you need a very good clutch for it. And yes, with PD100 you will need injectors (might as well get a set of bosio race783 if going to the effort) turbo + intercooler. For the brakes, yes its a pain to replace the outer hubs, but they should be relatively easy to come by in scrapyards.
