Choppy or clunky noise on idle with clutch not depressed

Featured Replies

Anyone heard a bit of a slight clunky/choppy or rattly noise

(possibly about a second apart between the noise) when you don't have the clutch down, on idle ?

(goes away immediately on pushing clutch down and holding in then come back when released)

Is it something needing adjustment or signs of impending doom....clutch and gears run fine and smooth

Dmf I believe mate.

Could indeed be the DMF.

Mine did this, only the sound was much more severe than in your case, before catastrophically failing on the Motorway causing gearbox damage...

...Skoda approved used warranty to the rescue!

Oh balls!

Should I be driving the car with kid gloves then not like I usually do lol ?

Worth fixing urgently, and any ideas how much it would cost ?

The cars a minter apart from this and up to this point has been an absolute keeper. Good opportunity to upgrade clutch perhaps ?

I'm no expert but I can tell you that the flywheel damaged my gearbox badly when it failed, so i'd have it checked out as soon as you can IMO.

As mentioned before I managed to get the flywheel (and gearbox) under warranty but had to fork out for a replacement OE clutch (even though it was replaced 12k ago by the previous owner). The Skoda dealership said we would always change the clutch when fitting a new DMF, for one because of the fact their is no additional labour if the DMF is being changed.

I suppose you could look at upgrading the clutch. I didn't because the warranty doesn't allow such combinations, plus i'm keeping the car standard apart from a conservative, smooth remap in the near future. The extra expenditure of an uprated clutch doesn't appeal to me in any case.

Bottom line is get it checked out early if possible :)

Damn, I guess driving like a girl for me for the near future though...breaking bad habits of a lifetime

I drove 20k on a slightly rattly flywheel, thought it was okay then.... Bang.... Bye goes the gearbox

Yeah check it out ASAP. Not worth the risk of a gearbox rebuild / replacement.

Could be a noisy release bearing like mine.

Its gone away now....can't even get a video of it as the symptoms seem to be hiding....if anything its making me listen more to the engine to listen out for camwear !

If its very intermittent does that not reduce the level of concern somewhat...if it did sound like a barrel of bits all the time that would be another thing...and its made me drive far more considerately so I dont plod around in 6th
