Keeno93's Fabia Estate!

Featured Replies

I'd love to know where you can get those too. I'm this | | bloody close to breaking out the MIG and welding the exhaust myself. Unless the Fabia RS parts fit, I see no other option. As for induction kits, you can make one on your own. You don't need a compatible kit. Just buy the parts separately. Its one step above plug and play.

EDIT: Pardon for the pseudo-jacking, but does anyone know where i can find the oil cap that i can use without having that horrid engine cover?

  • Nice work on your previous cars. I do love an estate, especially the Fabia with a VRS kit.

I really only want the exhaust to give it a nice deep sound when im hitting revs and dropping gear, not so everyone thinks im driving a chav wagon haha. A friend of mine offered me a Savage back box for £40 brand new, its 4inch. I've never had a 'sports' exhaust on my cars so im not sure if its too big or not? Seemed a good price though!

Four inches is massive, mate. Its way too big. I don't even think it'll fit the Fabia. Maybe yours since the combi is slightly larger. Hats off to you if you manage.

Just to compare, I have 2 1/2 inches on my 2.5l Merc and 3 inches on my team's 2.0l Peugeot. 372 and 419bhp, respectively.

EDIT: Bugger. I misread that. I thought you meant the full exhaust from the manifold and back. The back box will probably fit, even if its 4 inches. I googled that back box. We call these "japsdämpare" over here. And they have an awful reputation. Personally I wouldn't let that thing anywhere near my car. Its just a bad joke. What is the point of having the sound if you don't have the power to back it up? But that's just my opinion. You're free to do as you please, of course. Just saying.

Savage or cherry bomb back boxs are the ultimate chav exhaust, they are designed to be asloud and offensive as possible......AVOID

But on another note(excus the pun) i like those wheels

Alright. Thats it. What the bloody hell does "chav" mean? Its been bugging me for days now. I asked my gf and she couldnt give me a straight answer. Said its kinda the uk equivalent of a hoodlum.

No offense, but I've given up on trying to understand brits a long time ago. Sara's been trying to indoctrinate me, but it only worked partially.

I'm also an import and was told it means Council Housing And Violence. Don't know if it's true tho?

Its a creature thats about 5ft tall, wears a burberry baseball cap on the crown of their head with the skip pointing directly at the sky, they are usaly to be found wearing tracksuits and trainers (or sneakers), they like to mug/beat/steal on a regular basis, ohhhh and they loveeee a loud exhaust

Basicaly they are like bouncy balls..... Absloutly useless to anyone but great fun to bounce of the ground repetadly :) hope that helps

Ohhh and im scottish not british :)

So basically, the scum of the earth. Ta, guys.

BTW, Keeno93: Just built an induction kit, although with an el-cheapo air filter for 18quid since i haven't gotten my K&N filter yet. I used; filter, a straight 300mm polished metal tube (cut it to the correct length) and one 65mm to 76mm rubber adapter. I didn't remove the original filter box since that's where the cool air is lead, but I took the top portion off. For the record, it might be becuse the filter is crap, but it sounds awful. I mean its a bloody skoda 1.4, not an RB26. Way too noisy.

I think the filter from K&N (http://www.knfilters.com/search/product.aspx?Prod=33-2830) will work a lot better.

Cheers for the feedback guys!

I think your all right in saying to avoid the back box ive been offered, i always knew it was dirty and cheap.. was just my impatience! I definitely want to get one on there, maybe something more subtle though?

As for the air filter, i may just try one of them cheapys off ebay, will do me until i fancy forking bigger bucks out. I had a pipercross one on my first day, loved the sound.

As for the definition of CHAV, most people have given are how i see them. The sort that walk around in tracksuits and Nike Air trainers, usually in a group as there scared to walk alone. Usually mouthy, spit before each sentence and many dont work. Also, as mentioned 'Council House'.. alot of the time they seem to come from poor backgrounds. Maybe thats my ignorance but im only saying it how i see it! Oh and the 'chav looking car' tends to be small litre cars such as Fiesta's, Saxo's and Pug 106's with lexus lights, big loud exhaust, Halfrauds wheels (More chrome than style) and music louder than the Staffy they keep with them for some kind of safety!

Rant over. LOL

EDIT:

Could someone please confirm that this is a DECAT please? As far as im aware after reading through it, it 'bypasses' the catalyst. I have emailed the company but had no reply. The price is correct, its just the picture that is throwing me off, but i no alot of ebay sellers use a picture just to give you an idea of what the product is.

I may just get a de-cat and get a tip instead of getting a backbox. It will still give it the required rumble without sounding like a fog horn haha

Thankyou :)

Edited by keeno93

I think a cat bypass is a straight pipe through the center of the cat to avoid the filter type part so yes .......but i could be wrong.

You could also remove the front silencer aswell as the cat if your car has one to give it more of a grumble, it certainly worked on mine but then again iv got a fair bit of power.

Have a look at jetex back boxs there cat backs and turbo backs are really good quality so i cant see the back boxs being any worse.

Air filter wise have a look at a green cotton one, they also sell heatshields for them that you could fit

Edit:

http://www.jetex.co.uk/website/jetexcustomexhaustparts.php

Can anyone confirm or deny that Fabia RS exhausts fit the "normal" Fabias? More specifically from the cat and back? It should, at least theoretically, fit the hatchback. But what about the combi? Its slightly longer of course, but that can be remedied rather easily. Personally I'd rather modify an RS exhaust than weld one from scratch. I'm sure that goes for keeno93 as well.

EDIT: keeno93: How interested are you in engine tuning? I might have found someone that sells tuning parts for the 1.4MPI. The bloke said he could pull 95 horsies outta it. I dunno how he does it yet however. But my mate said his MPI had some serious power in it.

EDIT2: What brand is your coilie set, mate? And where did you get it?

DaKKs_152:

Yeah i'd definitely be interested in power increase as long as its not them silly chips or anything dodgy :)

The coilovers are off ebay, the picture has 'Hot Tuning' on. They are on there for £189 but i offered £175 and it was accepted :D

Nah, he was going to supply me with a list of parts he used. He mentioned a tuning cam and modified fuel injection. I'm nowhere near an expert on fuel injected engines though. Or engines, period. I'm a, I think the english word is "tin smith," and I dabble in auto electronics. I'll need to look over that list before I can state anything with certainty. The bloke has a tuning shop in Budapest, Hungary though.

Ta for the tip on the coilies. They're nearly 600 quid over here. I'm going to order one on monday. Even with the extra shipping (Belgium -> UK -> Sweden), its cheaper. Only question now is how much difference there is between the 2000 and 2001 model. None as far as I know, but they seemed awfully adamant that it only fits the 2001 model.

EDIT: I looked over my videos from the past summer and I know for a fact now that there's a Romanian bloke who got right under 400bhp out of the 1,4MPI engine. I'm not aiming for that much, but I'll try and track him down. He's a big player over there so I'm sure he's affiliated with some tuning shop that can give me(us) pointers. I'll keep going through my connections in eastern Europe. Tuning Fabias is very common over there.

Evening guys!

So i have a few updates for today, got a load more stuff coming in the post so il do them as they come. Took the Fab round my friends yesterday after a drive into the City with my bro n a couple of mates. Gave the Fabia something to be happy about :D The BBS's went on, gave it a massive wash, polish and wax n shortened the ariel!

shineonroof.jpg

After fitting the wheels i was getting a knocking noise from the rear passenger side wheel. Firstly i thought it was a buckled wheel, but figured out quickly that it wasn't. When i got home, i got my dad to have a look with me and what had been happening was the increase in wheel size was rubbing against the arch lining (Burning). So we cut the lining out which was near it and got a grinder to the metal, to ensure a good sized gap. Then layered it in black hammerite!

I suffered this same problem with my Fiesta when i changed to the zetec-s wheels, so i checked it out after doing the fabia and turned out to be the exact same thing! I cut the lining away and took it for a spin, no more rubbing when turning right :D WIN WIN

This also arrived today. Ended up being bigger than i honestly expected. 3.5inch. However once its on the car n lowered i think it will fit in nicely ( I hope )

backbox.jpg

Ordered a few more bits since my last update;

-Carbon Fibre Centre Cap Overlays

-Smoked Team Heko Wind Deflectors

-Front and Rear aero wiper blades (Going to de-wiper the rear so no longer need the new blade lol)

-New number plates as my current ones are very tatty with rust marks

-Super bright xenon head light bulbs as the ones i fitted a few weeks back are terrible and yellow?! These are lightly tinted blue :)

-Super white number plate LED's

So im going to be busy with the car for the next week or so :D Already for the Rackheath meet on April 12th (A big car meet in Norwich)

The Fab is booked in to the garage for 3pm tomorrow to get the new exhaust fitted, i will try get a vid up on here when its done. Also, could someone give me a heads up on the sized grommit for the rear wiper hole

Comments n Criticism welcomed as always :D

Yeah, that exhaust is still giving me bad vibes, but its your car. I'm getting this from BSR, http://www.bsr.se/bilder/_/art_x788y1024_4004111_1.jpg According to my colleague, it will fit non-RS Fabias plug and play.

Lookin' good otherwise. I like the tinted headlights. Give me a heads up when you're installing the coilies, will ya?. I'm holding off on buying one until I know the quality.

Btw, I mistakenly read Northwich, instead of Norwich. I was just about to say that you're just around the corner from where I'm moving.

I will do Dakks! Yeah, im abit dubious about the exhaust but im sure it will look fine.. its just the noise which may let it down lol.

Think the Coilovers are coming on Thursday (according to the tracker number).. Bank holiday weekend Friday, Sat, Sun and Monday, so earliest they'll be on is Tuesday! But i will write a small piece on here about first feelings on them and update you when they've bedded in a little :D

My thoughts are to tell them to put them at there lowest (10cm) but i may say half way n then i can adjust accordingly to my wheels! because 10cm will be quite a drop (making the wheels sit inside the arches quite abit. We shall see :)

10cm will be too much, I reckon. If there is one thing I've learned in five years of motorsport, is that adjusting suspension is an art form. Set it to half that, 5 cm, and go from there. Unless you're a die hard racer, which i reockon you're not, considering you have not yet complained about the power in the engine, you want to find the magic setting. Halfway between comfort and handling.

For the record, adjusting a car's suspension correctly can take months and hours on the track.

100mm would be too much plus you would have to get the tracking and such done, go on the mk2 bit and scroll down a little to the thread h&rs fitted and you see mine lowered 40mm (4cm) and that looks like a lot never mind over double that...... Although if you can go 10cm with no problems......DO IT :D

Good grief, that exhaust looks mahoosive!

Will be interesting to see how it looks on the car.

Looks tidy mate, looking forward to seeing the coil overs on! I've just got some FK's 55/40 drop for my estate! :)

Cheers for all the comments guys!

I no the exhaust looks big, even i have to admit that loool. Dont want people getting the impression im a chav but as i mentioned previously its going to be the first car ive owned with a non-standard exhaust, so i may have gone abit o.t.t haha.

Anyway, dropped the Fabia in for exhaust to be fitted after work (around an hour ago). Not sure if it will be done by tonight or not but the guy said he'll try :) Just waiting on a phone call. In the mean time, i came home to afew packages thanks to Royal Mail ;) haha. Here's a quick snout for ya!

bitsandpieces.jpg

As you can see i got the following few bits. Will savour them until the weekend I imagine unless the weather improves. Coilovers and wind deflectors should be turning up tomorrow so il book the coilovers to be fitted when i pick it up after the exhaust. Tuesday being the earliest of course (damn B/H :( )

I see the recommendations for coilover drop was around 5cm, so that's where il start (il tell the garage to set them halfway).. Then i can adjust them to my liking. I should imagine the change of wheels (14s to 16s) has shortened the arch cap to around 10-12cm anyway. Will defo be interesting when all my current stuff is done. Then i will be thinking about booking it in for rear windows to be tinted and the roof to be vinyl wrap in gloss black :D Then im pretty much there for my current plans.. still the vrs front bumper to go after tho!

Good luck, mate. Hopefully you'll have better luck with your Fabia. I'm actually seriously considering selling mine. I just found out that my servo is buggered. I dunno if I can rationalize buying a 360quid part for a car I just bought for barely 1200. I get one helluva discount on the fitting since I work there, but still. Just the part in itself is a robbery.

To quote a friend, "Well, seems that's it, lads an lasses. Its been one helluva ride." (Incidentally, he said just before passing out right after rolling an Omega at 60mph...)

Sorry to hear the bad news pal. I'm sure if you sold it, you would get a similar sum back! Best to keep German though so i hope you stay on here :p It's all about the Fabia's!

Got a phone call from the garage at 5:20pm saying it was ready to be picked up, but i couldn't get up there so il be popping in before work to get it in the morning :) Asked how much it was and he said £30 which im more than pleased with! Starting to look forward to the weekend now to get the new bits on (even more so if the wind deflectors arrive tomorrow, they will make it look stunning!)

Ta, mate. I've owned it for a week and a half. What's keeping me from selling it is the rear ended VW Golf 1.8t in my mates backyard. Its giving me an itch only an engine transplant can scratch. My mother already said I've got this look in my eyes I always get when I about to do something really, really stupid. If my gf was here, I reckon I'd already be handcuffed to something, just to make sure I'm not going anywhere near the garage. (Get your mind outta the gutter, her old man is an MP. :giggle: ) You can get 200bhp outta that engine with your hands ties behind your back. If I sell this one, buy another Fabia and I sink a few thousand into it anyway, a few hundred quid wont really matter in the long run. Only problem is the MOT. I'm only allowed a 10% power increase.

I gotta admit, I never quite fancied the combi, but you're well on you way to give it the attitude its seriously lacking. That's actually my biggest problem with it. It's boring. But seems you're doing a good job remedying that.

Btw, i looked over that list i mentioned. The bhp/£ ratio sucks. Unless you're planning an engine tranplant, install a performance filter, decat, catback sport exhaust and have somone remap it. You might get 80bhp outta it, if your engine is in good condition. I dont think you(or I) can rationalize the gain economically. Besides, i reckon this is your daily driver. I dont think you want to risk the reliability either.

Evening guys!

Picked the Fabia up before work this morning. They did a good job on the exhaust, isn't quite how id like it thought. Currently sitting below the rear bumper (want it to sit in the bumper which can be done with a little DIY) so thats something me n the old man will have a go at sooner or later :)

Exhaust (Doesn't look quite as big on the car which im pleased about but a little on the beefy/loud side)

Exhaust.jpg

So when i got home i had all my stuff from yesterday and the wind deflectors + aero wiper blades turned up today so i plenty to do! As always i was eager to get started n no sooner than walking my dog, i had started!

New 6LED number plate bulbs

Rearnumberplatebulbs.jpg

Carbon fibre centre cap gels (Look stunning on the BBS's in my opinion)

CarbonFibrecentrecapgels.jpg

Aero wiper blades (Every car should have them!)

aerowiperblades.jpg

Tinted Team Heko wind deflectors! Alot easier to fit than my Fiesta and thanks to my non-electric windows, no problems using the windows :D

winddeflectors-1.jpg

New number plate. Looks a hell of a lot better!!!!

newfrontnumberplate.jpg

New rear number plate. (Had to grind the old screws off as they were rusted. So drilled fresh holes) SIDE NOTE: Need to remove rear wiper motor and get blanking gromit)

newrearnumberplate.jpg

And then these beautiful little babies arrived! Booked in for Thursday 12th (Should be ready to pick up Friday afternoon :) )
