Towing with the DSG

Featured Replies

We can't compete with Ian's Stirling, can we ?! Yours looks grubbier than mine, there, but by the time we got home Annie was in full Yeti camouflage.

PS  The Sloop at S'n'Ives?

Dewi the Yeti is normally mucky!

And I'm not even go and try to compete with Iain!!

We did have a pint in a pub in Fore St, but other than meet the daughter who works in a sandwich bar in St Ives I try to keep away. Mind you we did have a good meal in a new place called the Hard Core Prawn one evening. Best calamari I've had for years.

As to fuel consumption; I keep to around 56 mph and seem to get just over 30 to the gallon.

A year later, an update, for the sake of anyone who finds this topic via a Search.

With almost 11K miles under Annie's wheels and after a year of experience of towing the 1425Kb Elddis, I've found that the DSG when cold can snatch a bit when moving off under abnormal load (e.g. uphill or on soft ground) in both first and reverse.  If you do have to shift a 'van uphill at the start of a journey I suggest first driving solo for only a few minutes to warm up the clutches.  After that, all is smooth.

Any comments from the other DSG caravanners here?

Only that I preferred not towing the caravan :D

I think any gearbox will "snatch" when cold so like with any machinery best to let them warm up before putting strain on them. I've not had the exact experience as you describe with a hill or soft ground and a cold DSG. So can't comment.

Not just the machinery either judging by how I feel of a morning........
