Corner Lights

Featured Replies

I think we are not confused.

I see the various setting every day.

Anyone covering any mileage in the UK sees the Different lights,

working as intended, working as Re-set to work, and many working with faults.

We understand that DRL's extinguish as the vehicles other lights are switched on.

(we understand ones that stay illuminated but at less intensity,  or even Corner DRLs, that go out or dulls as an Indicator comes on)

Mercedes, Audi, BMW, Citroen, Renault etc, Skoda, VW, etc, we see all the combinations.

We have cars with DRL's.

Skoda Fabia vRS, Daylight Running Lights.

These on your cars become less bright and are our Sidelights when we switch on the Sidelights,

or Head lights, Dipped and on Full Beam.

(our cars heve no Fog Lights fitted by Skoda as Standard.)

The Term 'Fog Light' refers to a Certain type of Light, Bulb/Lense & Light Pattern to help in 'Fog' when Sidelights and Dipped Beam may be getting used.

Fog Lights use in the UK is explained in the links i posted earlier.

The difference is becoming  'Blurred' (appropriate term.)  as Manufactures are using different Lights to do many things.

But Basically 'Fog Lights used in Fog, Sensible.

2 Fog lights on in Fog Sensible.

One fog light used as a Light to illuminate one Corner then the next Automatically, means that the Driver

has no control over who or where they are disturbing other road users.

(other than the chose to activate these to be working automatically when they are driving, regardless of weather or lighting conditions)

Diving in normal Dark with Sidelights & Headlights on, and as you turn shine a 'Fog light' or Auxiliary light for no particular reason.

(some setting have suffuciant lights on, and one switches off, as in Slow speed cornering and using an Indicator.)

Different Countries different rules and Light Setting on cars.

Many in the UK now set their cars lights to other Countries Settings.

These please some and annoy others.

The nice thing about special lighting is it sometimes gives you advanced warning when you spot a 'Cornering Fog, Cornering Light', or even Cornering DRLS extinguish at roundabouts etc, as often fitted to VWs go out, what direction the car will turn,

because often the driver has not used the indicators which would flash Amber/orange and be the correct way to let other road users including pedestrians know where they are going.

Well, if so what's te problem of answering the question? There are cars who are shipped with this, no new components here. We just explain it's possible without buying a more expensive version of the car.

Go blame the brand of the car for making this option if you don't like it. Or go blame the TS for asking...

It's your choice and that of other, I think it's the wrong discussion on the wrong place. You should make a new topic just to complain about certain useless features or things you don't like about 'new' cars. Like Xenon, Corner lights, adaptive lights, DRL, After market lights (xenon/drl), etc. Even normal fog lights (front and rear) are useless in most circumstances, we hardly ever have that bad weather. (Netherlands) And what about the high beam, people abuse them allot!

So can we please just keep to the Q&A here? Thanks. (Haven't seen the TS replying though.)

Forum threads might take a turn once the answers have been given to the OP.

Funnily Road Captains and those with Special lighting needs can try to be Forum Captains.

If you want Technical Questions to have no other comments, maybe post in the Technical Section..

Not blaming anything.

Just stating the UK Law and use of Fog Lights.

'Use and Construction' EU has put the lights fitted and available settings at odds with UK Traffic acts.

Highway Code.

Even the UK MOT has not caught up.

If a tester has the Lights on, some will be looking now as the Wheel is turned and one Additional light goes out, or comes on.

Lights should be fitted as a matching pair and work as a pair, other than.

Indicators, High Level Single Brake Light, Number plate light. Parking Light, Rear Fog Light.

(Years ago cars used to have one Spot or Fog Light fitted to the front, or One Yellow & one White Spot/Fog.,

many classics still do.)

But Brake Lights, Stop Light, Side Lights, Head Lights should work as a Pair.

(Auxiliary Lights are not Tested in the MOT test.)

No idea if you drive much in the UK.

But there are people doing different things in different areas.

For decades we have had Boy Racers and others with Fog Lights or Driving lights on to say,

I am Cool.

Years before any cars had DRLs, other than Volvo ones.

Anyone can do their own thing.

They need to accept that if they blind other road users, they might expect Full Beam shining in there eyes.

& the other Road User might have more Candle Power than them.

See & be Seen, but why is more lighting better than the correct lights for each given situation?

george

Is it? Who told you it's better? I only heard someone tell me it's worse. So less is more? Is more better?

I'm used to being a captain, as in forum admin. Which is not on the road though, I might have bought the wrong car in that case. (Fabia 1.2 TDI Greenline). I'm just not quite in the mood for a "yes it's, no it isn't" discussion, no need to really, especially not when I just have 5 posts in Briskoda.

btw, I did not change my lights in any way. Makes me think, what should people do with these options enabled by default? Cause they do sell cars in de UK which have this enabled, they even advertise with it (just google it...). You'll even find old threads here (2010) about the same thing.

So I guess the question is answered, might see you around in other topics though. For now I just focus on my own board, as a captain ;) Although it's nice to help each other out, like some sort of neighbor. Which was the idea really, not to discus light...

@Jonny boy:

I think you and George are confused.

Fog's, DRL's and cornerlights (and active cornering) are totaly different.

Cornerlight do light up corners. I think you both haven't seen this feature yet. Otherwise you wouldn't have made this posts.

I answered the question:

"Would it be possible to activate cornerlights?"

The answer is: "YES",

But you will have to change the wiring layout. And than activate the option within VCDS.

The question: "Are cornerlights usefull?" is an other subject.

Thanks for educating me. Are they all different? Wow, I'm so glad you pointed that out  :notme:

I spoke about them collectively and their use/abuse.

If you feel that your world is enlightened by cornering lights then good for you. They serve no use, never lowered the number of accidents in the world (unlike DRLs) and they are a complete waste of time IMO.

Eventualy I have to excuse myself for answering a question.

I'm sorry the Dutch have figured out the wiring for cornering lights and I'm very very sorry I wanted to share this.

"Light abuse" never was intended to lower the number of accidents IMO.

Hi. I’ve a 2011 Fabia hatch 1.2 TSI elegance and there are Corning lights ( either from the DRLS or Fog lights ) Have tried Carista and nothing.

I can get other functions to work ( needle sweep, locking, alarm etc )

when I try and enable Corning light I get a canbus light error on dash.  Had someone sit in car trying pretty much all scenarios and nothing so have up.

Dude, this thread is dead, it's an ex-thread, gone to meet its maker...

Start a new thread with your problem please.

...But before you go, do you remember how you did the needle sweep?

P.S.  Had to smile when I saw Skodfab80"s  cars age on the profile... I suppose he went "Back to the future" To get that!
