Ordering on Saturday

Featured Replies

Morning all

I'm going into the dealers on Saturday with the aim of putting an order down on a Superb Elegance Greenline Twin-door (if I'm brave enough). I decided as I am planning on keeping it for some time, I would select quite a few options

Metallic Paint

Hill Hold

Park Assist

Mats

Washer jets

KESSY

Auto dim mirror

Side blinds (not rear)

Heated rear seats

I don't think there are any 'must have' options that I left out? I'm not sure about exterior or interior colour though. I always thought I would like black with Ivory which does look very nice but I have a black car at the moment and its a pain to keep clean. The Ivory looks great on a dark exterior colour but I am concerned that I'll worry about it getting dirty, either from myself or others.

The Silver is nice but I saw one at a dealer where the front bumper was clearly a different coloured silver which put me off.

Regarding price, the dealer is £800 more than DtD but are willing to throw in another years warranty. The dealer is only a mile down the road which will be very useful for warranty and servicing so I'm keen to strike a good relationship with them. I'm hoping I can knock them down a little more and get them to chuck in the spare wheel but are there any suggestions before I head in there on Saturday, colour, spec, negotiating technique? ;)

Definitely a spare wheel.

I for one wouldn't rely on a can of gunk and an air compressor.

I had spares added to the Yeti and my Superb when ordered and didn't pay for either!

The Elegance spec is great but lacks a few silly things like the dimming mirror. It is definitely the right spec to go for.

Be careful with a lighter leather colour as it can be a pig to keep clean, I had light leather in my Octavia L&K and it was really nice but a nightmare to keep looking good - especially being a grubby Air Con engineer

Regarding external colour it is personal preference of course, I think the Twindoor suits darker colours and the Metallic grey looks great - IMO of course.

As for negotiation, the Superb is selling really well so I wouldn't expect a massive discount to be honest. Just don't come across too keen, be prepared to walk away and have a good think about it. Maybe push for free mats and the spare wheel and go from there. If opting for finance I always have a go at knocking a bit of the APR off, might not work so well nowadays but I've managed the odd percent here and there in the past.

what about heated front screen, and unless you park alongside kerbs all the time park assist is a wast off money i had this on my last car only used it to show friends how it worked.spare wheel is a must.and black is the best colour.should get mats for free at the end of the deal just befour you shake hands.

Ivory leather with Ivory carpets is no longer available. I ordered this for my car (delivered Jan 2012) and was told by dealer when entering order into system option is disconntinued. There are a number of posts about it

I opted for Ivory leather with black carpets, and actually, quite pleased I did, as it was amazing how much dirt I picked up in the brief cold spell recently.

It's not a combination keen to everyone's taste so make sure you see it before you order.

How about timing your visit towards the end of the month. They'll be hoping to meet their targets if they've had a poor March and you might get a better deal.

Spare wheel well worth ordering. You also get a jack with some tools and a place for a Westfalia detachable tow bar.

I have metallic black and found mud flaps help to keep most crap off the bodywork.

Heated screen if your car lives outside is fab - Park assist, now, it was "only" £200 more than front sensors when i ordered mine, which i thought was great, as will be a good addition come time to sell if (if selling private of course) and i do use the front sensors for parking. - I wouldnt be without the Spare wheel!

From what I've heard, the mats are crap quality. There are lots of companies that sell perfect fit mats that are better quality and less money. DEFINATLY spare wheel. I had a blowout last week, and needed the RAC to get home. The next day I ordered a spare. I also wouldnt bother with park assist unless you parallel park a lot. I wanted amethyst purple originally, but ended up with steel grey, and I think it looks really good, and hides the dirt fairly well

Its £335 for front sensors (which I would like) and another £145 for Park Assist. Take the VAT off and its only £120 extra. I doubt I'll use it much but I'll pay another £120 for the car to park itself when its pouring with rain and there are bright lights everywhere making it harder to see (you've all been in the situation I'm sure).

I did hear the mats were rubbish but I couldn't find anywhere selling others (other than ebay and I wasn't sure of the quality). Mudflaps are a good call and interestingly, I'm thinking of Steel Grey as well. Not sure on the interior colour still. Very much up in the air and it doesn't help that I've never seen the Ivory in real life.

I have the New Ivory Leather/Black carpets option and live/work in Surrey - Private Message me and perhaps we can hook up so you get a chance to see it before you cmmit You do have a while to confirm spec before build.

I collect my greenline SE twin door on Saturday. I ordered through autoebid and bought through the dealer in Mansfield.

I've gone for Platin Grey. Luckily they had a platin Grey ordered and in build when i ordered mine, i order mid december last year and it was in build in week 51 of last year. The genuine rubber mats are £33.00 for the set of 4 - I also ordered a rubber boot mat to match at £43.00

In terms of negotiation March is never a good month simply because every 12've plate sold before the 1st March will count towards March's target for the dealer, as these presales will be registered in March. Manufacturers tend to offer dealer incentives in the quiter months ( july/august) hence pre registered cars. You will be lucky to get enough time with a salesperson on Saturday as they will be busy with March handovers. Personally I would not feel as though I should buy locally instead of from a broker. All customers will get the same treatment from the aftersales department whether they use a broker or not. Its upto dealers to compete with brokered deals. The finance deals are really good at the moment - I would be surprised if they lowered the rates. Best bet is to ask for fuel/mats/accesories etc.

Good luck - let us know how you get on.
