Extra boot light installation

Featured Replies

Hello all,

Whilst its nice to have a boot light, in my experience it really isn't up to the job of lighting the boot very well....so my idea is to put another light in but on the opposite side.

I'm sure it's not an original idea so has anyone done this before with encouraging results?

Im thinking if I go to a scrappy and get the light from there I would be able to put it in on the other side.

Only thing is i have no idea what im doing so how would I go about wiring it all up?

Thanks in advance!

Can you or do you know someone who can solder?

Just a case of doing a mid line insulation strip, Soldering a live feed from the existing light live and running it from one side to the other under the carpets.

Cut the carpet on the O/S for the light, Crimp on a female spade to the end of the live feed, And make up an earth lead and earth it on the bodywork beneath the carpet.

Job done!

You could also use a Scotchlok (Shudder)!

Im planning to do this, but was going a step further. Ive had the plastic tail gate trim off to do some deadening and noticed the large amount of dead space behind and ideal wiring (con. live, lock micro switch) for a extra led light

Have it wired up so it comes on when the boot gets opened, it will be like a courtesy light. Maybe someone has done this already...

The only issue would be, It'll light the road instead of the boot!

Yeah like a puddle light if you see my point

I'd be tempted to fit a red marker light the bottom of the tailgate too!

Why would I need to put a spade on? I meant I would use an existing boot light 'assembly', so I would have everything, just need to connect it up.

So just attach it to the current live feed and earth it to the car body basically?

Simples!

I'll post some pictures when I get it done!

Thanks for your help.

You'll need a spade to feed the new light!

Would it not be a good idea while you have all the tools to hand to wire in the extra fog light!
