Not sure if i shoud be proud or ashamed

Featured Replies

Last night I took pikey car maintenence to a new level.

While manoeuvring out of a tight parking spot at work I caught the passenger side of the bumper of the ibiza on a massive kerb ripping the screws out of the arch liner and unclipping it from the body.

Lucky it will push back into the body but the screw holes in the liner which hold it in firm ripped apart so it just flexes and bend out of the body again.

Hmm how to fix it

Simple solution = just use some new self tappers and screw it all back in place

Oh i have no self tappers left

Ok we'll drill some holes instead and use some cable ties

um

err

drill some tiny siting holes and use a bent nail?

yeah that'll do.

Yes i have indeed fixed my car with a hammer and nails :D

Sounds like quite an achievement. :)

Jeremy?? Is that you?

I always thought that the basic repair material for all occasion was baler twine........ :giggle:

Three rules for a mechanic

1. Always use the right tool for the job

2. A hammer is always the right tool for the job

3. Any tool can be used as a hammer

There is a forth addition

4. If the problem can't be sorted with a hammer it's electrical.

These rules always served me just fine throughout my long career in the motor trade!

AH- the good old hammer . Not only in the motor trade is it tool of choice. Without a hammer of various sized , britains rail network would grind to a halt. If points stick - use a 2 pounder. If you want to remove /replace a rail -hammer ( but bigger).Keys locked in van - BIG hammer .Want to smash up ballast -machine driven hammer . And ultimate - how do you think they consolidate the track ballast - yep - a Tamper ,which is another massive hammer . And then once that's done , they simulate the passing of hundreds of trains - a lot of big hammers . Women in nearby flats are in throes of passion when one of these goes by .

Duct tape, hammer, lots of verbal abuse and a dose of brute force and ignorance always gets the jobs done. This is does not work, as stated above, you have an electrical problem :)

Works for me too.

If electrical you just need insulating tape and a paperclip.

Gaffer tape and a swiss army knife.....and if that doesnt do the job you must be stupid!!!...As i was once told!!!

K:)

This is obviously where I am going wrong - keep buying all these fancy tools and gadgets for home DIY but clearly all I need is some gaffer tape, a hammer and a paperclip to cover all my needs!

This forum is great, thanks peoeple

I'd add an extension to 4 -

4. If the problem can't be sorted with a hammer it's electrical but try a bigger hammer first

Thinking on your feet-------Thats good. I would have tried Bostick first?
