Yet another Felicia central locking query...

Featured Replies

Hey,

JJ again.

This has completely baffled me:

When I bought the car, it came with two keys: the twin-plane for the door locks (it's a facelift model) and a single-plane for the ignition, presumably because the original twin-plane ignition knacked up at some point.

The twin-plane key has had it's electrical 'innards' removed for what reason I don't know.

Problem is, whenever I open the driver's side door, the passenger door opposite won't unlock, but all the others will. However, if I unlock using the passenger side door lock, all the doors unlock.

A further complication is the fact that none of the doors lock with the key (only unlock). I took the door cards off to have a look, but all seems mechanically normal to my eye. If i turn the key to lock the door, the lock cylinder will turn and spring back as it should, but nothing else in the door lock mechanism moves - do I need the electrical bit out of the key for this?

To actually lock the doors, I have to do the classic thing where you reach around from the back to the front door and lock it from the inside.

So... confused...

Can any of you fine chaps enlighten me?

Thanks,

JJ

You don't need any electrical parts in the key for the central locking to work. The locking solenoids are known to cause problems, as does the part on the lock barrel where the locking rod connects, this usually breaks.
