Forge 007 & 008

Featured Replies

Looks like the Cars getting the treatment it deserves and my Bora sold on Ebay tonight. So as well as visiting a body shop to get it looking mint it will be getting the Shark Treatment Via W8 Performance very soon.

Im going to have to get a Uprated DV, i know the 007s are the fav for VAG cars across the range, but i have seen the 008 also. Anyone got 1? why should i get a 007 over a 008? Im looking to Stage 2 the car once i can afford a nice exhaust system, and i have bought some FMIC pipeing for the Front mount now so im nearly there.

What experiences have you lot had?

Cheers

Its alleged that the 008 has better flow characteristics, allowing for more consistent operation with whichever spring is used.

not seen a shred of evidence to support this yet though.

Considering its price, and as yet unproven design, I'd save some $ and buy a Compbrake unit.

I suspect the real reason behind it is too try to get more sales for Forge, who have lost out big time due to number of other DV out there now, and how expensive their own stuff is.

you sir are a legend. If im honest i do begrudge paying forge prices. i know there a quality product blah blah blah but that it aint all about the name. As long as it works i care not for badge snobbery. im assuming you run this DV yellow snow man?

I bought my DV when the only option was the Forge 007, or nasty chinese clone

They where much much cheaper back then

Compbrake kit is very well made, that's what I'd buy now if I had too.

considering i told the wife i was not going to mod this car, it seems to be becoming very well modded! lol

Compbrake are really good nearly 2 years now without any issues

Guy on ed38 selling loads of them in all different colours!!

;)

I had an 008 on mine - I've gone back to a new OEM valve - makes my Shark map feel slightly less surge-y

After testing we find the 008 is a very good valve and worth the slight extra over the 007P.

The OEM one is fine usually......

Unless it's split, then get 3 new ones for the price of a forge.

show us the proof then

i will be buying a compbrake DV. seems a reasonable price.

Forge 007 item new at £50 is not that bad imo and £60 for the 007P - not looked at the 008, ran the cheaper ones which seem to work also but the support from Forge if any issues found is brilliant so I dont bother with the cheaper £30 ones I get

Don't know where you can get them that cheap?

Looks to me like Forge have put their prices up by about £20 in the last two years.

The 007P is now over £100 from Forge and £80 elsewhere (used to be £70-80). The 007 was discontinued years ago and superseded by the 007P.

The 008 is over £120 from Forge and £100 elsewhere.

The most shocking one was the Split-R which is now £166 (I paid £120 for mine in 2009) which is a crap valve anyway!

Can't comment on the Compbrake ones as I only ever had a Split-R and 007P but I would ask are they adjustable like the Forge ones? Do they have the option to change the springs as on the Forge you put in the harder yellow spring if you're running over 15 psi (which most remapped cars do). If the Compbrake is "one spring suits all" then I would be worried about it leaking boost if the spring is too weak, or damaging the turbo if the spring is too hard.

... are they adjustable like the Forge ones? ...

iirc The Compbrakes used to come with two springs. New info page doesn't mention them anymore ...

I bet they fit the Forge springs though ...

When i got mine there was no mention of 2 springs, nicee bonus when it came with 2. Send a message to the ebay seller which should be compbrake themselves, was really helpful when i was buying mine

I get from Forge direct but have a nice trade account so not jo public prices, sorry 007P is what I meant and the 007PA (iirc) is a bit more due to adjustable vac connection
