My new Red Car!

Featured Replies

Hello "Classic Skoda" forum,

My name is Max and I've recently picked up a 'brand new' 14500 mile Skoda Felicia GLXi 1.6 in bright Red on a P Reg. It is the original Felicia [my partner has a 'newer' version with Power Steering on 70,000 miles], but it is totally mint - as they say. It's last owner was a old guy in Plymouth who used it to travel 10 miles down the road to the shops - once a week. Needless to say, a real find, and I got it for good money. The interior is totally mint, even the wheelarches still have the red-colour on them.

Okay - I'm not a total newbie here, but this my first owned Skoda. I am a convert [i've even sold my motorbike for it] and I had the most lovely journey back from Plymouth - and it is currently at home.

With a car like this, there are bound to be some issues, so here goes. The engine is going to need bedding in again - when I started out, it wouldn't go above 3,000rpm....I've got it to 4,000rpm now and 70mph...so I need to stretch it out over the coming months. It will be used on high days/holidays, so really glad I purchased the bigger engine version. The lack of Power Steering is the only down-side, but compared to other cars I've driven, this is not a problem.

Boot is dry [Hurray], and the

The exhaust was blowing at the end of the day when I got it back from Devon. My partner says that all three of his Felicia's have done this - at the front - where there is a water-trap?? I've purchased some parts - oil (10W40), oil filter [OEM], Distributor arm and cap, and fuel filter [cos it will be blocked by now] as well as 4 decent iridium sparkers, so that should help. Its got a 13 month MOT, so all it good I hope.

I'll try and get some pictures sorted over the weekend - its covered up at home at the moment.

I'm based in South Buckinghamshire, so hopefully I've wave at any other Skoda owners if I see you. Briskoda stickers coming shortly.

Best Wishes

Max

Ha good luck with the fuel filter, you will have lost faith in the car by the time you've figured out how to get the old one off! And a tenner says it looks as good as the day it was fitted at the factory... be careful with the choice of rotor arm and dizzy cap because there are 2 types of distributor and the parts won't interchange between them, the magnetti marelli ones have a black dizzy cap, and the Bosch ones have an orange dizzy cap.. Most of them use the Bosch distributor even though the engine management ecu is a magnetti marelli type.

it is possible to retro-fit power steering to the car but it would be prohibitively expensive if you had to pay somebody to do it, there is a thread pinned at the top of this section showing how to do the job..

sounds like you have got yourself a bit of a bargain tbh.

a tip i found on a previous topic on here for the fuel filter change helped a great deal..

tip the back seats forward and pull back the carpet so you have access to the other end of the hose from tank to filter.

tie a good strong bit of string to the hose and unclip it so you can lower it down giving you more space to work with the filter.

make sure you dont lose the string though or you are buggered :giggle:

Okay - some interest here....

Apartently, my machine is NOT a GLXi1.6, but a GLX 1.6 instead...meya culpa. An early beast, but with the injection system fitted in....oooohhhh....
