Octavia 1.8 TSI MTM tuned or Volvo S60 T4

Featured Replies

Hi, my dilemma is that here in Thailand car prices are very high and at the moment I have a choice of a Volvo S60 T4 with 180 hp, 1.6l engine at about 47,000 Euro and I could get a MTM tuned 1.8 TSI for about 42,000 Euro. Problem is the Volvo i could test drive, but the Octy I can't. Then for just a little less, about 37,000 Euro I can get a Fabia RS, also MTM tuned to about 200hp. Don't really need too much space, but a bit of comfort would be good, good seats are important (Volvo scores high here), but I like to have fun as well...so not sure if a Fabia RS or Octy 1.8 TSI would do the trick. The Volvo was quite alright, but just not really that much fun.

Don't shout that the prices are ridiculous...I know they are, but importing is just not on in Thailand, so we have to do with what we get.

The Skodas are full import, whereas the Volvo is made in Thailand.

Would appreciate your comment on those 3 cars, I suppose more about the 2 Skodas how they compare, but if anyone has also tried a S60 T4 (the new model) that would be great.

Skoda is of course a very rare car brand here in Thailand, even VW is not that common...., Honda and Toyotas, Benz rules here.

cheers from Phuket, Thailand

Depends what tuning has been done by MTM I suppose? Just an engine map or chassis mods too? Probably the most fun from those three would be the Fabia rs.

You have my sympathy regarding car pricing over there. Those prices are around double what we'd pay in the UK. Ouch.

Thanks Rob

Prices here are definitely Oooouch!

Would you reckon that a tuned 1.8 would be quite a bit more fun than a S60 T4?

Kind of like the fun of a Fabia Rs, but the interior is a let down, and the Octavia might be a better all round option
