lock and wheel nut + recovering service history

Featured Replies

well ive just bought my new fabia and it happend to come with alloys... but sadly... lock and wheel nuts to which i have no key! they appear to be genuine skoda alloys so i asume genuine lock and wheel nuts, my question is....

If I ring the original skoda garage would they be able to make/give me a replacment?

Also, if i contact them do you think they could give me some history of the car such as old service times or a service book with the history of visits etc... i asume for a fee at least!

the reason i ask is its had one owner from new and i have a print out of all the mots which have taken place at the same garage and any work done at the same dealer, so the cars been well looked after but as far as service books and paper work i dont have much.

Thanks for any replies :)

I lost my wheel nut key to my old Astra

I went to the dealer and they had to get one made up, cost me £90!!

Get in touch with skoda ASAP you don't want a puncture and not be able to get the wheel off

If its a genuine skoda locking nut then you'll need to go down to the dealer, they'll have a set with one of each type in and basicly try them until you find the right one. Then they'll order you one in, comes complete with a new nut & the key, was less than a £10er 6 months ago.

I seem to remember that Skoda UK offered a service via RETAINAGROUP http://www.retainagroup.com whereby the first owner of the car could register their vehicle on an International Security Register ( a sticker was located on one of the rear 'quarterlight' windows bearing the code number ).

I'm sure among the things which could be registered was the locking wheel nut code.

Might be worth giving them a call/email if the supplying dealer can't help.

Hope you get something sorted out.

Toyota sent me one FOC but i'd got FMDSH from the same branch on 3 different RAV's at the time, Merc lost my service book and again supplied a free replacement, as long as you don't potentially mind paying a small fee or are happy with the service print out's you shouldn't have a problem at all.

As for the wheel nuts if you need them off they're easy enough to get off and any tyre place certainly won't have a problem, i'd suggest investing in a can of tyre foam just to be on the safe side till you're sorted though. Going to the local dealer will get you the correct key and that's probably the best option as you don't have to shell out for a new set of bolts afterwards.

There's spot for an OEM locking wheel nut key in the jacking up/wheel change kit in the spare wheel well. Also, have you looked in the glovebox, under the flap in the glovebox, in the passenger or drivers seat underseat storage boxes or the coin/pen cubby down on the RHS of the dash under the headlight switch or even the ashtray.

The service history is only kept at the servicing dealer, no central database (assuming it had dealer history anyhow).

If you don't have a service book with the car (you should have, there is a hidey spot for it under the flap in the bottom of the glovebox) you can buy a duplicate from Skoda (originals are not available) but it will be blank. If you know the servicing dealer and they have a record then can stamp the duplicate for you.

I'd reckon that if the car is as you have described, then the locking wheel nut key will be where it should be, as explained earlier, in the insert in the spare wheel. People that look after their "bought new" cars tend to keep things where they should be - and not in the house! I bought an ex channel isles rental car (Fiesta) from a Mitsy dealer, in front of me the sales guy just threw the "Tee" key and the lock number plastic tag in the bin - because they were both just junk - he was a bit shocked when I demanded that he retrieve them and hand them over with the rest of the car documents - car sales people, and that includes main dealers often have not got a clue about the cars - all they know about is market value - idiots!

Not that I doubt you as you'd obviously know first hand but it must be different for other brands in the group as that goes against my understanding when I got legal with my local VW dealer after Teves MK60 failure. I got nowhere with the dealer so raised it with VW UK before small claims court and they had full live access to view service history centrally along with ownership details etc. What they couldn't do was view the service jobs at the branch to confirm work carried out but the dealer updated the central records and 5 mins later VW UK could see the changes. They then refused to deal with me as i'd got the branch to add SWMBOB as the RK. I pointed out they only had those details because i'd provided them and offered to do a chargeback (I paid for her car) and see how well they got on refusing to deal with me and suddenly names were less important :)

Have a look on Direct.gov. You wil need your MOT REFERENCES etc, but you wil be able to look at the pastvhistory of your vehicle.

VW and Audi have the dialogue system which is a central database, Skoda and SEAT however to not use the system.

hutchysrs50 , one thing, any warranty stuff should have been logged with SkodaUK - well at least that is how it was with SeatUK when we checked up on a car my daughter bought.

Right, About time i replied!

I've just got off the phone to Skoda - Telford. They confirmed the vehicle was from there but had no log of service history or any other work.

The lady i spoke to said she couldn't tell me very much but said the car was last logged in, in 2009 for some warranty work but couldnt tell me what it was.

As for the lock and wheel nuts, i'll just get them off myself next time im at work, looks like a large spline/torx bit will get them off no problem.

Any idea what the warranty work could have been back in 2009?

Thanks for all the replies aswell.

I know it's been mentioned already but you have looked under the 'false floor' in the globe box haven't you???

My service book etc was in there.

Sorry, I mean GLOVE BOX. Not globe box.

Hi, ive searched everywhere i can think of for both lock and wheel nuts and service book.

ive checked the glove box and false floor bit, both door cards, ash tray, centre console, drivers side cubby box thing, the seat holders either side and the back of the front seats(dont know if all seats have these but my sport ones do) checked under the seats in the other storage box's and pulled the spare wheel out to double check no lock nd wheel nut had just been thrown in!

i have no contact with the previous owner of the car and will only know who they are when the logbook comes back in my name, im wondering if contacting him when i get the log book back is a worth while thing to do or not...

Yeah, they know what work had been carried out on the car but couldnt tell me over the phone / without proof of ownership.

Just stops people getting other cars regs, ringing up skoda and knowing the ins and outs of everybodys car and what works been done on them.

Another update: Been to Carlisle tonight to collect a few bits and bobs. The guy was really friendly and had nothing but good things to say about the car. He told me all about the acident and how it happend which was good to know. He didnt want any money for any of the parts he gave me but as a good will gesture gave him £40 regardless (seemed like a decent amount i guess)

Ive ended up walking away with a sony CD player, the original Symphony Cd player, the full owners guide/service book (with full service history) pack with all the guides and booklets in, aswell as the radio code for the cd player. I also got radio pins used to remove the radio, some wiring, full size spare wheel, Lock and wheel nut key, the chrome pedals (proper skoda ones not aftermarket) tool kit, some recipts & mots, a few other bits and bobs..

... and as an added bonus, 5 month road tax! as the car was bought salvage, it came with no paperwork, no tax disc etc.. i knew it was taxed due to the dvla but couldnt get a copy of the tax disc without the logbook and was just going to buy another 6 month tax regardless, the logbooks came and is in my name and now have the tax disc to display, so it should be on the road tomorrow! :)

Excellent, just goes to show, that, if you don't ask you don't find out.
