DAB Radio in car.

Featured Replies

Hi,i would like to have DAB radio in my vrs but dont know how to go about it,has anyone got it in there car and how did you go about it.

Install HU and suitable aerial ? DAB is over rated as is the coverage hence why it's had such poor uptake in oe and am hu's.

Had my dad's single DIN Blaupunkt up on eBay as he's recently replaced his car. I am running an RCD510DAB in my vRS with a Calearo combined DAB/FM aerial. DAB is crystal clear and not had any issues with reception on coverage.

I purchased a Kenwood DAB radio & windscreen mounted DAB aerial. Its fantastic. If you love sport, radio 5 live and 5 extra are brilliant. Can't listen to them on MW any more. And you also get Talksport too. I certainly wouldn't say DAB was over-rated. Lots of different radio stations too (though I know this is dependent on where you live).

I am also looking at DAB radio options for my 2009 octavia. Is the only option to have an extra box on my dash, plugged into stereo. Or can the existing standard radio/cd be replaced ?

I think DAB is great btw, better quality, more stations and easier to "tune".

Has anybody got any pics of there dab install, like where they have positioned the aerial and how it looks,I have been looking at the pure highway, has anybody got one of these.

better quality

No chance. A decent FM signal beats the crap out of DAB!

Had one with work. Utter crap. Needs to be plugged into cigarette lighter, needs an aerial stuck on windscreen, and transmits the dab via FM!? Do it properly by replacing the headunit or don't bother.

+1. My dad has quite an expensive Onkyo DAB reciever, and it doesn't sound as nice as FM stereo. The bitrate is too low, Radio 3 sounds excellent but that's because it's using nearly 3 times the bit rate of all other stations.

Apart from the illumination, the install in my mk2 Octavia looks like a factory install - the head unit is the same size and shape as a Columbus and the combined DAB/FM aerial is made by the same company that made the OE aerial on the car. It wasn't cheap but combined aerials start around 50 quid including the necessary cable.

I've got a surplus Blaupunkt 54 head unit with a DAB splitter that connects to the existing FM aerial and sends signal to DAB and FM.
