Early signs of DMF failure

Featured Replies

What are the early signs of DMF failure? Only reason I ask is I seem to be getting a slight knock/rattle when the engine is cold. If I put the clutch in then it goes. Once the engine is warm everything is fine. I don't have any problem changing gear and there is no slip from the clutch.

Any help really appreciated.

Seems to be quite common ! I have the same but only occasionally, also unsure how serious to treat it.

However looking at other posts there are others with far worse signs before failure that would be more noticeable, noise while in drive etc and more juddery on pickup etc.

I would say, like me its time to treat the car with more TLC, don't be in top gear for maximum acceleration etc and drive as an older car which needs more respect. Or bite the bullet and get it done.

I'm looking for the noise to be at least more frequent on idle before I get really worried.

Ok thanks, I'm guessing that if I hold the clutch down at traffic lights this will probably help as it won't rattle.

Try reving it a tiny bit and hold it there when stationery around the 1k mark on ur counter ;) should stop .
