Possible to give gear selector tighter feel?

Featured Replies

Getting fed up of the looseness of the gearchange on my car- it's looser than a prostitute's vag.

Has anyone been inventive and managed to snag some way of giving them the feel of an A3/MkIV Golf? Both of them feel miles better...

Lol Sam. I'm sure I found a link on here somewhere to tightening the gear linkages. On phone at the moment so not easy to search too well.

I'm interested too....

There is a proceedure for re-aligning the selector cables.

There was a thread and a link to the youtube video.

iirc it involves locking the gear selector into 2nd (believe there's a hole for a screwdriver under the gaitor), then locking the gearbox selector (via a button on the gearbox casing), then releasing and re-tightening the cables.

This was for a petrol, but assume the diesel has a similar procedure.

ps

If still not tight enough, then consider a short shifter gearbox selector such as a TT selector, or one of the Forge, CompBrake replacements.

If you wan to go the full hog, get a replacement gearstick kit like the B&M fleabay copies.

Lovely. Thanks everyone! Howard- your CD will be in the post soon!

Cool cheers buddy :)

Is this something we should be doing often or just when there is a problem.

+1, interested as well. Or more so, could doing this wake up sleeping dragons within the linkage? I'm sure after 230tkm something has become a bit mis-aligned

Its not something that needs regular checking.

Its the type of thing that needs to done after dropping and refitting gearbox.

If the gear linkages continually go slack, maybe its time to change the cable clasps.

Another method to tighten the cable linkages can be found on Rob's pimpmyskoda.co.uk: Gear Shift Bushings

i have a set of these forsale :)
