  • As someone else said it always snows over Easter and I've been in the Lake District over an Easter (was it 2008? Can't remember) when it did snow. So keep 'em on until then Mike.

Only 2 degC this morning and likely to be similar all this week.

Keeping my Winters on certainly into April; may swop on the 1st, but will keep an eye on the weather forecast for Easter.

It had better not snow any more now - I completely snapped my Achilles tendon this afternoon playing a Staff -v- Pupils B/Ball match this afternoon - now in plaster and probably a dead cert for surgery - so no Yeti for a good while! Flipping typical when I was having so much fun in the mud!!!

Ouch, hopefully a quick recovery, may I suggest you decorate the plaster to honour what your missing?

Nasty!! Deep sympathy, Sandy

Hi Sandy,

:'( to hear you've been in the wars, hope you recover soon.

Regards,

TP

Bad luck - not pleasant. Hope you are soon on the road to recovery.

You will probably be wearing the title of this topic after your op!!

I swapped mine back and the weekend (still have cold mornings but warm afternoons). I noticed the lack of grip on the Dunlops when it was 2'C in the morning but it was over 10'C later in the day.

It had better snow properly next year! I've spent over a grand on Vredsteins and a second set of Spitzbergs - I went out in the snow we did have, just because I could.

Swapped mine back this weekend, cold mornings(2'C) but warm afternoons(10+'C). I did notice the lack of morning grip.

It had better really snow next winter - I spent over a grand on Vredsteins and a second set of Spitzbergs (I really, really couldn't live with 16" steels for 5 months of the year!). But I did enjoy the few days of snow we had.

Sorry to hear your news Sandy and hope repair and rehab go well.

Cheers

Peter.

When the temp rises it does wallow a little, great for 4 wheel drifts going round roundabout I seem to remember. As most of my driving over the next week will be at night in the colder time of day, I will keep the winter boots on, even though I am tempted to change. it was 20 degrees the other day!!

Hi Guys thanks for the kind words, much appreciated. Better not send any more though cos I'll get the blame for hijacking and taking it off topic. Thanks again.

I fitted Goodyear All Seasons last Autumn, and plan to keep them on through the summer and see how they wear and work compared to the previous original Dunlops.

With the temperatures rising up here in them hills, and the dawn chorus rising at about half - five, and the little lambos crying at about six, and the crows cawing at about half six - an hour after the blackbirds startlement at half five, and the dew drops dropping shortly after and the light lighting at the same time... .... ... ... ...

..... .... ... ... ...and the farmer's quad bike revving, and the other farmer's tractor burbling, and the oldest farmer's Datsun 4*4 pickup farting, and the other crows cackling.... .... .... ....

.... .... .... ...and the school bus parping, and the mailman arriving, and THE SUN SHINING... ... ... ... ...

... ... ... ... ...I am gonna change NEXT WEEK.

So there. More tales from the countryside, in the red soil of Powys. (Makes a damn mess of the Spitzbergs... ... ..)

I think my Winters will be staying on for at least another 2 or 3 months.

minus one at 6am now plus 11 and glorious sunshine - winters will be off when I can be bothered :-)

Changed back to the 17" wheels today after 5 weeks of winter tyres (only had the car for 7 weeks). Really notice how much firmer the ride is with the 17" after the 16" and winter tyres. Sure I will get used to it.

Needless to say since I put the winters on in mid February there has not been the slightest sniff of snow here in sunny Liverpool, however we have had quite a few days with the temperature below 7° so I feel justified buying and fitting them.

Peter

Those nice people at the West End Garage Broxburn put my 'summers' back on this am and even washed the car while I read the paper and had a hot chocolate. I really value that they don't charge for storing the other set and don't charge for swapping over if you've bought their winter tyre package, Hopefully they'll be able to continue that service as they said they were having some problems with storage, We had a very mild winter with only 2 days of snow and relatively few icy days, but it was enough to convince me that winter tyres are well worth it. While the winter 16" Coopers Weathermasters seemed perfectly fine to me, I'm definitely in the camp of preferring the firmer ride of the 17" Dunlops and glad to have the alloys back.

Sorry Peter, I can predict with some certainty that there will be snow and ice in Liverpool over the next couple of weeks - I was going to leave mine on another couple of weeks but the car was squirming all over yesterday with 18 degrees, so I switched back to the Dunlops today - the car feels much better for it!

I've been debating whether to switch to summers this weekend, being as we will be into April, but having looked at the weather forecast for the next week and seen that the prevailing wind/weather will be coming from the N/NW and some parts of the country will be getting snow by mid-week; I think I'll stay with my 'winter boots' on for now.

I've had it all organised to do it tomorrow...... then I saw the weather forecast on my phone saying possible sleet and snow on Wednesday... in LONDON! But looking at the long term forecasts it won't last so I think I'm changing anyway. A week of cold on summers will be better than doing any more winter tyre driving in 23 degrees heat! I don't drive much anyway so it will be ok I guess. Can't wait to have proper low profile tyres again so I can fling the car through corners instead of these soggy marshmallow winter things... :giggle:

Appreciate your point of view which is fair enough, but for my part as I use Kevin to commute 20 miles each way, I'm in the office by 6:30am and I'm running 225/50 17 Winters so no marshmallowing (well just a little); I'm happy to stick with mine for a week or two longer. ;)

Likewise. Even over here in the hills it has been in the twenties by day... ... ... ...but at night the long fingers of mist and chill reach out to entwine and coat in unsightly dribble the paintwork and glassy bits of the Yeti and the Zedd.

And when we get on the move in either vee-hickle, the recording temperature is invariably around three to six chilly degrees.

So when the first appointment to get a 40k service and tyre change was past mid-April I breathed a cloud of vapour in relief - and will keep these Winter Boots on for a wee while longer. The Beemer has run flat amorphous nondescripts upon its skinny alloys, and anyway, with a ride like it has over the frozen turds, I'd never notice any different. It's the icicles hanging from the softop that gets in the way.

What tyres for the fuel queue? :)

Changed both our Skodas back to 'normal' tyres earlier this week. Not planning much use of either for the next couple of weeks.

Noticed immediate 'stiffening up' of ride in both - very impressed at the lack of wear on both sets - at this rate we'll get 4 winters out of both?

Washed, protected/polished and safely stored away.

I fitted Goodyear All Seasons last Autumn, and plan to keep them on through the summer and see how they wear and work compared to the previous original Dunlops.

I did the same, and the All Seasons did very well (albeit through a snow-less winter). I've not noticed any deterioration in the handling as the temperatures rise, and I'm now debating whether to keep them on or change back to the part worn Dunlops sitting in my garage.

This would save the cost of having them swapped around, but what shall I do with the Dunlops if I keep the Goodyears? Sell them? Is there a market for part worns?
