advice on windscreen fabia vrs

Featured Replies

hi,

last week i had a new windscreen fitted by autoglass, some litle fecker threw something of a motorway bridge and it bounced down my car...

anyway they came out and replaced it for my £75 excess, they sorted it really quick but when i looked it didnt seem to be fitted right... but what do i know hey... well now my baby is at a garage having a new starter motor as it burnt out on saturday along with a load or wiring causing my oil light to come on and my tc light....and now to the point at the garage said that it wasn't fitted right and that i should get back in touch with autoglass, at the top of the windscreen you can see about a cm of the plastic trim and at the bottom you can see the letters and the barcode underneath it, also one of my roof strips in now loose and coming up...

any way to all you fabia owners, can you see the barcode as well as the letters on your windscreen and how far from the top is it?

thanks x

they do say it comes in threes so hopefully thatll be it for a whiile and i can get back onto saving for my remap :)

Have you got any piccies?

not at mo.. but will try to get some on tomorrow when i have my baby back from garage

Arrange to take it to your local AG site if it's not too far away and ask them to have a look, when it comes to glass if it doesn't look right it's probably not right. If it's a hike ask for them to come out and inspect it as you're not happy with the install explaining that the garage have also pointed this out and you'd prefer to avoid having to get your insurance company to dispute it, if it's not installed as it should be they'll usually re-fit it correctly asap as the actual cost in fitters time is minimal vs the agro of a dispute.

just an update.. my instincts were right, ive called into autoglass for them to inspect it and they have said its 3 mm to low and are coming back out to replace it on saturday afternoon, looks like i may have got someone in trouble !!

No ,not got someone into trouble in my book. Just caught out poor workmanship. Possibly someone with a large hat and spurs :hi:

Harry Redknapp??

Good news you're getting the poor fitting rectified.

National Windscreens were really good when I had to have my MK1 vRS screen replaced. Within a month the screen started delaminating and they had it in the next day for a replacement.

Did Autoglass ask if you required a green tint to the glass and a choice of grey or green sun strip at the top of the screen?

When i had mine replaced by a friend that worked at an acident repair center for bmw, i recall him fitting a few clips at the bottom of the glass to stop it sliding down. When he took the original window out, the same original clips were still present to stop it sliding down.

on the downside, the bit of plastic with the barcode and numbers on has bubbled and doesnt look the best but oh well!
