Wing Mirror pranged

Featured Replies

Well - it had to happen sooner or later. Whilst reversing onto my drive, trying to avoid a parked car (which technically wasn't parked across my drive, but I have to park at a slight angle to allow visitors past the car).

I was paying more attention to my front bumper not hitting it and didn't notice how close my O/S wing mirror was to the gate post until CRUNCH.

Luckily the mirror popped forwards (as designed) and the motor and glass are still in tact (I' pretty sure the heating element is fine also) but the housing just above the repeater has a massive chunk taken out of it.

I have been looking for a replacement on ebay - but I can't find any.

I have a 10 plate Octi Elegance Combi in Black (with puddle lighting, electrically adjustable mirrors and header) - They are not electric folding.

If anyone knows where / how to repair / replace it - I have a can of the correct paint in the shed - so can supply paint.

Any help would be appreciated - Next time - I'll leave it on the drive and swing the gates outwards - They should hit the parked car from that distance - maybe they won't park there again.

Doesn't look like a massive chunk missing? From what I see, I'd mask the undamaged area ,rub the damage area down carefully with wet and dry or an abrasive block until acceptably smooth. Then touch up. If too deep, a bit of epoxy putty or body filler might sort it.

Yes, the photo could look deceiving, as it's so close up. Any chance of a photo taken further out, in daylight?

This should be enough - I think it's a little too deep to just touch up.. might need some filler

How would I get it shiny again after sanding it down?

I feel your pain, had mine removed by a lorry, came off completely at the hinge.

Ouch - suddenly my little scuff don't seem too bad in comparison.. Any suggestions on how to repair it? I can't really afford to spend a fortune on it.

Confine the repair to the edge of the mirror and the repair will not be very obvious. Carefully mask off the rest of the mirror casing after cleaning it up. After filling as necessary, a succesion of wet and dry paper from coarse to fine should be used. After painting careful use of T cut should bring a gloss back.

I spent many days repairing rust damage in my youth- one thing I do not miss today.

Thanks.

Will give it a try - never done anything like this before, but hey - it's already damaged isn't it :giggle:
