Engine Jack and Engine stand

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I recently bought a car for peanuts to get some practice overhauling an engine. It's a 1.3L petrol. The problem is - it's still in the car. I am looking to get a jack and a stand for the engine. Trouble is I don't want to spend £200+ on them because I doubt I will do that much 'overhauling' afterwards.

Are there ways of renting them for not much money?

Does anyone have one I can borrow off them? (I am on Jncn 22 of M25)

Any advice is really appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi Vinjy,

The stands are very inexpensive, £30 or so from Machine Mart.

I suspect the other bit of kit you are looking for is an engine crane rather than a jack? In terms of just removing an engine if you are planning to rebuild it then you can simply disassemble it and remove in sections, if it's only a 1.3 you should be able to lift it out so long as you separate it.

Of course you will still need a crane to put it back in eventually.
