fabia vrs many problems......please help

Featured Replies

hi all,

recently purchased a fabia vrs 54 plate and was very impressed untill last week.............

originally the abs and tcs lights came on when i was having a bit of a b road blast so obviously i slowed down and tested brakes etc and brakes were working fine although i obviously had no abs.

started car next morning and lights were off but drove off down the road and hit the brakes and the abs kicked in but soo over the top that my brakes hardly worked....

later that day was driving along and battery light and pas light and a few other popped up on dash so crawled home and found that the aux belt had shredded...

next day replaced the aux belt and all lights obvioulsy dissapeared apart from the abs and tcs and now the abs and tcs are on constanlty....

got the car plugged into vag-com and it said front left speed sensor signal not being recived so replaced that and its exactly the same as it was before...

have still been driving the car just very carefully as its my only means of transport and have noticed over the last 4 days or so that i am averaging no more than 22mpg when before all this crap started kicking off i was easially averaging 50 so i have lost 30 mpg somewhere,

just need some help and advice please guys i am a fairly competant mechanic have run drift cars etc in the past but now have a son and had to grow up hence the 5 door family wagon but the car is being nothing but hassle atm and to top it all off i lost my job 2 days before all this started happening never rains only poors ey?

so yea and help and advice on what to check/replace/whatever is massivly appreciated as atm its getting close to just plowing into a tree and claiming on insurance. LOL

cheers

Ash...

Hi Ash: I don't know what so suggest about this really. I think with any sensor related issue it can be a nightmare to nail down. I'm not sure how the brake problem relates to the fuel consumption issue though??? I'd take it back to the shop that did the work and ask them to check the fitting of the sensor again as they may have botched the job. Did you go to a Skoda dealer or an independent? I would steer well clear of the dealers and get to a good indy: plenty of them here. However just reasoning it down and only having one code show up means that there is still an issue with that sensor: so back to the shop.

No idea about the fuel consumption issue. Is the car's drivablility ok? Are you leaving behind a huge cloud of black smoke when you accelerate? I'm just thinking the engine could be overfueling but I am not sure.

Best get this back into the shop mate. Sorry I could not be more specific :(

haha did the sensor myself buddy so i know its all fitted okkk. lol. thinking the overfuelling could be the MAF as i have now lost boost and engine management light is on.. ******* car but no black smoke and car was driing fine up until yesterday and now i have a massive lack in power! i know i need to hand her over to a good garage but because of loosing my job cant afford iot that why i was hoping someone could steer me in the right direction. haha no worries bud any help is welcomed! :)))

Maf sensors are some times related in with the tcs light try unplugin it c if car goes any better n the abs could also be a wheel bearing if its not picking up the sensor as im pritty sure that is a magnetic bearing could try this mate

Changed brake sensor thingy?that bloody messed up my brakes abs and rear lights lol

Hi there, I know how you feel also being the owner of a 54 plate lemon that has taken a skipfull of cash to fix.

Here is a really good topics on common prob's with the fabia http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/213819-the-extremely-useful-fabia-1-topic/

As for the brakes & mpg loss have you jacked up the car and tried to rotate the wheels? If there is friction there with the discs pads they may need a clean or the seals replaced which isn't so bad, However if this persists It could be servos/Master cylinder? Which may also explain the over the top braking? This will not show up on vag com as it is a hydraulic issue.

Hi. I'm suffering a similar fate, although I don't get any warning lights. Have replace EGR, MAF & MAP sensors. Had to replace pads all round last week as brakes sticking on front right & back left. Regreased caliper just in case sticking. Brakes were still sticking on discs heating upto 140? compared to 45-50? on the ones that weren't. Also getting intermitant loss of power and mpg and juddering through steering even worse under slowing.

Mechanic took out the ABS fuse (No.7 under battery cover) last week to see if either ABS related or caliper/master cylinder. For the 4 days without fuse, obviously got ABS/Brake warning light but the car seemed to be running fine, no sticking brakes or unexplained loss in performance or consumption. Had fuse put back in yesterday and faults reset and problems have reoccured, so thinking its definitely ABS pump related unforunately.

I suggest try running the car for a few days with out fuse 7 (under battery cover) and see if there is any difference

Was your MAP sensor easy to replace?

What error code are you getting for the ABS issue? I have heard, on another make of car. that the pulse ring on the hub gets corroded and makes the ABS think that the wheel is locked.

Steve

You say you have changed the speed sensor? With a genuine part? The sensor is all part of the hub bearing isn't it? Ie the speed, abs is all read from the bearing.Sounds like a duff part if it's genuine vw kit, and if it's aftermarket then get a gen part and it should sort it.
