Fitting cruise control

Featured Replies

Went to the dealers today to order the stalk gave them the part number they took down the vin and reg number and the lady went off to see if any were in stock, Then the mechanic guy came out with a normal stalk and said this is the one for your car you dont have cruise control. :dull: I know i said im going to fit it on. Then he said you cant you have to buy a kit, I know i said with a wire. no no bla bal not that simple bla. Anyway they wanted £58 + vat i wasnt going to pay that much when i seen this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/170798212200?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649 can someone please tell me if this is the right one

That is the correct one for a mkII Octavia. Have you done this sort of thing before? As you need to remove the airbag, steering wheel, slip ring etc.......

I have fitted 2 separate cruise control units in as many months, firstly to swmbo's mk5 Golf and then last week to my vRS. If you need any advice or tips, drop me a PM. Also I can tell you the two avenues for coding.

If you are no rush, it may be worth waiting for a bargain. I got the Golf one from a member on the mk5golfgti forum, paid £45 delivered, then a couple of week ago I managed to get the one for the vRS new for 31 quid delivered off the bay!!!

Remember this won't fit all Octavia II models. From around 2010MY on they now have a combined switch With the wipers and a different column control unit arrangement.

From 2010MY the price of retro fitting rockets.....had a quote for mine which was eyewatering

Yes ive done one on my old vectra with air bag but not slip rings.

Indeed, but the OP has a Tfsi so definitely not that new. I had a weird thing on both of mine, which had the same steering controller with the number ending with 'BC'. According to Ross Tech wiki, this control will NOT allow cc retro fitting.......wrong!!!

All done fitted it today. Only problem i had was getting the control module off i couldnt get it off at all, I ended up taking the cover off the bottom of it and taking the circuit board out.

The only thing i dont have is the light on the dash when i turn it on.

DId you have to get it recoded, that might be why you dont have the light on the dash.

What year is your car?

Also did you have to go in behind the window wiper assembly or is that only for the older models?

The correct way to release the module is to slide a narrow screwdriver or similar down the hole under the torx securing screw to release the latch in the middle.

Not all cars have the light on the dash.

Yes I know I followed a guide off the mk5 forum but it wasn't so clear that it had to be pushed to the left. Then there was a guide for a caddy I think where it showed the circuit board taken out.

My vRS is a 2006 and it has the light but only when cruise is activated! The Golf is a 2007 and the light comes on when you turn the cruise on, not when it's activated.

Russ, what coding was required? Did you go via 'Coding II-11' then enter 11463, or was it activated via 'Coding-07'? Even though both my cars have the same control module they required different coding........

All diesels require the login code 11463

Petrols are coded via the long coding helper, just check the box

All Octavia II models require coding (07) of the steering column ECU (address 16) options include board computer and/or multi function steering wheel. A drop down box pops up in VCDS giving the options.

I did long coding helper clicked bit 0 then did the steering wheel.

That explains a lot, the Golf is a dieseal and the vRS is petrol!!

You should get the light once you activate cruise then (depending on the model year).
