Brake light switch fitting

Featured Replies

Right, so mine has gone/going.

Same thing happened to my 6N2 Polo GTI and I managed to replace it; so going to have a crack at fixing it on the VRS at the weekend.

I've searched, but I'm finding different solutions and would just like things clarified:

- Do you have to hold the brake pedal down while fitting?

- When do I insert the wiring and when do I rotate the switch?

- Do I need to extend the plunger at any time?

I asked Skoda this morning when I ordered the part and the bloke said I should leave the pedal, put in the switch then rotate; and insisted on not holding the brake pedal down - this is different to what I have read...

Any help from someone who has fitted this recently would be appreciated.

you don't need to extend the plunger as its spring loaded. attach the wire whenever but its easiest to do it last.

yeah i bought 2 of them when mine went as insurance but the new ones are fine so no problems.

now i have a spare it will never fail again! :giggle:

I got the RAC to do mine as my partner was in hospital after giving birth and the car was stuck outside with no brake lights about to cost me tons in parking fee's, It took about 10mins and cost me £7 (cheaper than parking 1hr outside a hospital). The switch they gave me was the 3rd incarnation based on what audi use as they had problems with the mk2 and went back to the mk1 but slightly modified, should last the life of the car now :)
