Large spline for the front strut shoes. Cant remember what size, maybe M12?

also a vice is handy to tighten up the top mounts to the struts.

thank mate :-). . .

A friend of mine said something about need a special spanner to get the bolt off the top mounts?. . .:-$

I'd buy new top mounts, remove the whole strut assembly and leave aside.

Then use a vice to build your new strut with top mount.

Trick is the find a way of gripping the strut nipple and tightening up the bolt. I used an air gun.

The rear is all just your normal spanners/ratchets

however when i did mine, i was going from standard suspension to the coilovers, unless you have a very small set of spring compressors so you can compress the spring on the car, allowing you to push the damper up to make it shorter you'll struggle to get the standard damper off as you don't have enough travel in the wishbone to allow the damper to be manoeuvred out.

I had to buy a 36mm star socket to remove the drive shaft nut so i could pull the hub away from the driveshaft and wishbone so the damper had enough space to be pulled out from the wheel arch and i also had to get a 14mm spline tool socket to take the clamping bolt out the back of the hub. i also got a hub seperator tool which opens up the back of the hub where the suspension is mounted so it can be released from the hub easily. im not sure wether all of this is necessary but those where the problems that cropped up when i did mine.

id try to just use spring compressors first to make it short enough because removing everything was a ball ache for me. like i said not sure on whether the way i did it was wrong or right but it was the only way possible for me.

that site might help,

best way to tighten up the top mounts if you have to (my coilovers came with custom top mounts due to adjustable damping) is maybe a drophead spanner? its a 7mm allen key as well which can be pretty rare. my mate had his dad mill down a socket at his work so he could fit the spanner into the side of the socket. worked a treat :)

I've got new mounts n bearings :-)

A whole lot of determination!!!!

gettin bolt off front suspension is a pain in the arse, like previous decent drop spanner got nine off. Back were simple enough just make sure someone's there to help get springs out or use some good strength!!!!!!

Hes got new top mounts and bearings so no need to strip the old struts.

hardest part i found was getting the front strut out of the hub assembly, there is meant to be a specialist spreader tool but i couldnt find one anywhere. managed to get a very short chisel in the gap at the rear and then used some brute force to slide it off. rear took me about an hour and a half with basic tools, front took about 2 hours a side just because of the hub and strut. all my nuts and bolts come off very easy.

Another way you can do it (the way I did it), is remove the whole lot. That way you can pry the hub shoe off whilst its off the car. Much easier, but requires more removal. You'll need a new hub nut plus tool to do this.

Ah yeah course.much easier lol. Mine were changed just before bought it.

Get some pics up wen done fella

will do :-D

Hub spreader use an 8mm allen key grinded down on 2 sides. Insert and turn 90 degrees which will split the hub

To get the strut out jump on top of brake disc lol!

Proper pikey way to do it but it works ????
