The Question of Oil

Featured Replies

According to the Handbook, Page 250, it clearly states that Diesel engined Octavia's use Oil grade VW 507 00 oil with a DPF fitted, if there is No DPF the Oil grade 505 01 should be used.

If you have the DPF removed which grade of oil should one use.

This applies to cars on Fixed Servicing QG0 & QG2

I think the Answer is staring me in the face but I thought I'd check

Thanks

If it came with a DPF from the factory then stick to the VW 507 00.

Stick to 507 00. You know the old saying "oil is the cheapest Mechanic". If your car still has the DPF fitted you must never use anything else due to its lower ash properties. Best buy it from your dealer (Quantum).

if you're sticking to variable servicing then stick to 507 as its a long life oil otherwise if you don't have a DPF and on fixed service don't see why you can't just use normal PD approved oil 505 01

507 with or without DPF as the TFSI petrol vRS also uses 507 without DPF.

Shell helix is cheap at euro car parts with our 25% discount.

507 for me with or without DPF. Treat a car right and it will look after you.

If your car has a DPF from the factory, then they've possibly made assumptions regarding it using 507 in the service life specifications etc.

I'd probably stay with that.

If you're on variable it's that anyway.

Thats right 5W30 to keep to VW 507.00 service plan.

Thankyou, I'll go sort some out to keep as a 'top up'

If you already have a 1 litre top up bottle then it may work out cheaper to buy a 5 litre bottle of Shell Helix from Euro Car Parts with the 25% forum discount and then just decant into the bottle to keep in the car.

Mindst you, I'll have to check in the garage & see what grade the XKR used, as there should still be some of that still in there (& probably a synthetic too)
