A Yeti without Dunlops?

Featured Replies

I cleaned my Yeti for the first time today having covered 1000 miles (not all on a road) and was surprised to see it had Pirelli P Zero tyres.

I thought they all had Dunlops. Sure enough, checked Mrs Fox's DSG and it's got the same Dunlops as the old one.

Is this a recent change on the higher powered versions or has it always been like this?

Both of ours have Annapurnas, so it's not related to that.

Pirelli P Zero on my Spitzberg wheels. Would much rather have had Dunlops as Im not a big fan of Pirelli.

SKoda is probably getting a better deal on them at present.

Doesn't it depend on what they can get the best deal on or in stock at the time?

Dunlops, Pirelli and Goodyear have all made an appearance on the Yeti 17" rims since production start. The Goodyear and Pirelli disappeared for a while but over the last few months the Pirelli has made a reappearance alongside the Dunlop.

I was guessing it was a performance thing...

My wife's car was built a week before mine and has different tyres in the same sizes on the same rims.

Oh well, you live and learn. :)

Motor manufacturers generally take care to ensure they do not get locked in to a single tyre manufacturer. You can carry on building and selling cars if sunroofs or leather seats are unobtainable for a while, but not if tyres are unobtainable. So spreading the tyre contracts around is essential in order to avoid getting held to ransom, especially since the tyre industry plans its production runs a very long way in advance. (Hence the tyre industry's inability to respond to the increased demand for winter tyres in the UK in recent years: the production quotas had been fixed at least a year ahead.)

It's not really a case of seeing 'what's in stock at the time' - it needs to be more calculated and strategic than that.

Continentals on our Yeti

Our Yeti - delivered 02/2012 - has Pirelli's size 225/50R17.

Mine had Goodyears to start off with. It had Falken winter tyres on until last week but now has a nice shiny new set of Yokohamas on the summer alloys.

Seems to ride almost as well on the 17'' Yokohamas as it does on the 16'' winters. They are much better than the original Goodyears although this could be because the Yokohamas are new rather than the semi slick Goodyears

The Octavia Scout runs the same 17" tyres as some Yeti's. It too regularly swaps between Dunlops and Pirelli's.

Pirellis on my annapurnas only done 600 miles but will be going back on in next couple of weeks.Did`nt get much chance to comment on them but prepared for a much harder ride.

my 6 week old car a 1.2tsi petrol came with pirelli

.i find the ride quiet and smooth

So is mine the only one with Conti's?

Not seen these mentioned as being fitted to a yeti anywhere else on the forum

16" rims have either Conti's 205/55 & 215/60 or Goodyear Excellence 215/60. The 205 on the GreenLine is an E version of the tyre to reduce rolling resistance.

Mine has the Conti's but the 215 size; not a big fan, the winter Hankooks are a better tyre.

Well there you go, knew someone would have the answer.

Betty's are the Conti 205/55 version

Dealer told me that mine would probably come with Dunlops...told him that I'd prefer P zeros...

PZero Rossos are vg!

My dealer has a new 'Urban' Yeti in his showroom with Pirelli P Zero Rosso fitted. whereas the 12 reg 1.2 DSG Elegance that is their demonstrator (and I'm driving for a few days as a service dept courtesy car) has Dunplops.

Our Urbans got Dunlops, must be a case of 'chuck on whatever comes next'?!

When I finally did receive mine, it had P Zeros....nice ride, quiet, handles well in wet

This Urban has P Zeros - well cool.

Saw a used TDI 2wd SE Plus at a dealers yesterday fitted with the PZ, noted the front tyres looked quite worn down for 12.5k on the clock, mind the stone chips on the front suggested she may have been driven with gusto shall we say.

My second yeti came fitted with PZ Rossi's. Have to say that I have been driving in very wet conditions of late and they have handled them really well. Only done 4000 miles so can't comment on durability.

Just put my winters on and the P zeros have been fine having done around 7000 miles but don`t think they will be very high mileage tyres, reckon I will lucky to get much more than 14000 out of them even when I swap them back to front next spring. In April, just after taking off winters we had a couple of inches of snow one morning and they don`t like snow!!! although they did ok getting me out of the car park at the Great Yorkshie Show when cars wee stuck everywhere.

cheers

Peter

Dunlops on current MY 2012 TDi Urban, whereas our first Yeti, a 2009 1.2 TSi SE, came with Pirelli P Zero's. I seem to recall the P Zero's were absolutely hopeless in all the snow a couple of years ago.

Currently running 205/55/16 Hankook W310's (in place of the 17" Dunlops) and hoping for better luck in the snow (if it comes this year).
